New Ontario Dairy Princess MIddI.s.x gig/ wins Brown The selection of Gayle Lewis as On- tario Dairy Princess at the CNE Wednesday night was not only ex- citing for the R R 4 Denfield girl, but, the beginning of a busy and exciting year. Her studies at the University of Guelph will be delayed one year as she spends the next 12 months as a full-time employee of the Ontario Milk Marketing Board. Gayle has completed two years of a four year family studies course at Guelph with an emphasis on gerontology. She will be working on the OMIt1B public relations staff promoting milk. Gayle commented,'' 1 will be trying to help bridge the gap between the urban -rural population." Sunshine gals are reunited Ten gals formerly of theSunshine Line Usborne township met for their 20th get-together Wednesday August 27 with dinner at the Burkley Restaurant, followed by an enjoyable afternoon at the home of Marjorie Hodgert. Those present were Nettie Hogg, Thorndale, Mildred Crago and Ella Somers St. Marys. Alva Routley, Elimville, Agnes Lamonds, Cromar- ty, Greta Gibson, Lucan and Louise Creery, Norma Hooper and Audrey McRoberts, Exeter. They are all looking forward to their reunion in 1987 on the fourth Wednesday in August. Crediton man has reunion with buddy By MRS. STAN PRESZCATOR Crediton Mr. and Mrs. Stan Preszcator returned home from a flight to P.E.I. The weather there was about • the same as here. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dunn, Elmsdale. Harry was an army buddy of Stan's. They hadn't seen each other for 40 years. Sure was a great reunion. Also saw the home of Jean McLellan the man who wrote "Put Your Hand In The Hand Of the Man". In P.E.I. there are alot of churches of every denomina- tion. A new hospital has been built in Charlottetown, which had eight miles of corridors. It is heated by a plant that burns garbage. Also was on a magnetic hill, a lot of people from P.E.I. don't know its even there. Had a tour of Historical Village dated back to 1895. We saw the place were Stompin Tom Conners was born called Skin- ners Pond and attended the fall fair at Alberton, where I won a couple of stuffed animals. had a ferris wheel ride, which I never had in my life. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ohmayer and daughter Kelly, Ottawa spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Karl Ohmayer RR 1 Grand Bend. Ralph is Karl's son. GET PAY BOOST Associate Defence Minister Paul Dick announced today that the pay and allowance increases for Reserve Force members, covering a three- year period, have been approved. The initial increase averaging 3.75 percent is retroactive to April 1; 1986. This will be followed by additional in- creases averaging 1.83 percent effec- tive October 1, 1986, 3.25 percent ef- fective April 1, 1987, and 3.00 percent effective April 1, 1988. As of October 1, 1986, a recruit join- ing the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves will earn $33.60 daily while, the basic salary for a non- commissioned member in the rank of corporal will be $43.90. The basic dai- ly salary for a captain. non -specialist, will be $70.40. be followed by an all breeds dairy show at Madison, Wisconsin. The 42 contestants from all parts of the province were in Toronto for a week. They were trimmed to 10 semi- finalists and then the final five with Gayle receiving the crown from last year's winner Allyson Hagerman of Oxford county. Judging was based on 65 percent for interviews and 35 per- cent on public speaking. Gayle's prepared speech was on "Milk, the Versatile Food and im- promptu messages included, "Milk, Nutrition for all ages; "Dieting and Dairy Foods" and "How to tell con- sumers that dairy foods are good for them.," After her victory at the Canadian National Exhibition grounds, Gayle was transported by horse and car- riage to a reception at the Harbourcastle. Gayle resides at Lot 13, Concession 13 of London township with her mother Mrs. Marian White.
