Insuran.ce needs
Along with the emotional wreckage
left by most house fires, residents
could face financial disaster if the
property was not adequately insured.
"It's tragic to see a family struggl-
ing to cope with the shock of losing all
their possessions, only to discover
they can't afford to replace half of
them," says Don Sandilands, an in-
surance expert with the Ontario
Ministry of Financial Institutions
1 MFI 1. "To protect yourself, review
your household insurance policy
every year and upgrade it as
necessary."
When a policy comes up for
renewal, homeowners should take
stock of all their possessions. 1f you
haven't already made a list of
everything you own, go through the
house room by room, taking an inven-
tory. Jot down the approximate value
and replacement cost of each item.
How much are the goods actually
worth in their current condition and
what would it cost to buy similar mer-
chandise today?
The inventory list could prove in-
valuable if anything is destroyed or
stolen. Store it in a safe place away
from the house.
Insurance agents and brokers can
often provide inventory booklets and
other material to help you calculate
insurable amounts on your home and
contents.
Homeowners who have already
done an inventory should take it out
every year and revise the costs listed.
Any new purchases should be added.

To avoid possible disputes over
claims, you may need special
coverage for particularly valuable
items such as furs, jewelry and anti-
ques. Detailed photographs and ap-
praisals of prized possessions can also
help avoid hassles.
Most policies cover the depreciated
value of the household contents. But
it is possible to buy special policies of-
fering replacement values. Insurance
companies will also arrange to cover
the replacement costs of specific
items even if most of the household
contents are only insured for their ex-
isting value.
"You will, of course, have to pay
higher premiums for replacement
cost coverage, but some people find
.
constant
the peace of mind worth thh money,"
Sandilands says. "The reason for
recording both the existing values and
replacement costs of your possessions
on the inventory list is to give you an
idea of what shortfalls you might face
if you are not covered for replace-
ment value. Talk to your insurance
agent or broker about how to best
meet your own needs."
The amount of insurance
homeowners should carry on the ac-
tual house is determined by the cost
of rebuilding, not the resale value of
the property which includes the value
of the land. According to Sandilands,
this figure should also be revised an-
nually. 1f in doubt, consider having a
professional appraisal done.
It's vital to take stock of your possessions every year to ensure
adequate Insurance coverage. When the household insurance
policy comes up for renewal, do a careful inventory of everything
you own, lotting down approximate values and replacement costs.
You may need extra coverage.
Laughing can help
reduce that stress
Back to school. Back with friends.
Back to routine. For many of you it's
a fun Time = for others it can be very
unsettling.
Arty change - good or bad - can
cause stress. New procedures, new
rules, new responsibilities, new peo-
ple. What you have to do is learn to
turn on the relaxation response to
counter the effects of stress.
First - identify the symptoms: in-
somnia, skin problem, indigestion,
i-cing thoughts, irritability, depres-
sion, fatigue, headaches, a sense of
being in a nit, poor concentration and
poor memory.
What You can do About it:
- Give yourself time and permission
to relax each day.
-Learn only to use those muscles
needed to do particular tasks (ie.
don't tighten your jaw muscles to lift
'a glass).

Pentecostal
ladies meet
The August meeting of the
Women's Ministries of the
Pentecostal Church was held at the
home of Mrs. Jean Tribner with to
members present.
The meeting was opened by singing
"I've believed the true report" and
"Take the name of Jesus with you".
Prayer was offered by Mrs. Mary
Blanchard. The roll call was
answered with a verse of scripture
containing the word "receive".
The minutes of the last meeting
were read by Mrs. Jean Jolly. The
missionary report was read by Mrs.
Mary Blanchard. The monthly
bulletin was read by Mrs. Ruth
McLaren. The missionary reading
was read by Mrs. Estrella Fink- -
beiner. Mrs. Shirley Prouty led a
special number in the form of a
"quiz".
The message was given by Mrs.
Hilda Eizenga. She based her
message on Psalm 37. A number of
scriptures referred to were Psalm 37:
Fret not thyself because of evil doers.
God says "Come unto Me all ye thal
are weary and heavy laden and 1 will
give you rest. Also - Delight thyself in
the Lord and He will bring it to pass.
Psalm 84: No good thing will Ile
withold from them that love the Lord.
Mrs. Ruth McLaren read a short ar-
ticle "Pastor's Wives_y too".
Prayer time follovi ed after which a
delicious lunch was served by Ruth
McLaren and Dorothy Cooper
assisted by the hostess.
One jogger to another: "Yes, running
has really increased my body
awareness - parts of me hurl that I
never even knew existed!" "
The most wasted day of all is that in
which we have not laughed N
-Alternate the tensing and relaxing
of muscles. Lie down and slowly tense
muscle grips (like arms, stomach,
legs and face) then let them relax - let
go. When your muscles are relaxed,
you can't have mental anxiety.
-Cut down coffe and sugar
consumption.
-When confronted by a particular-
ly stressful situation, breathe slowly
and deeply several times. Breathe the
way a child does from the stomach.
Finally, laugh a lot. Laughing is one
of the best things you can da It's a
positive emotion, and positive emo-
tions generate only positive, healing
results.
Happy school days!

review
Tenants should be sure they unders-
tand what insurance they are re-
quired to carry under the terms of
their leases. Apartment, con-
dominium and townhouse owners
should find out what areas of the
building they are responsible for
insuring.
"It's also important to understand
the extent of your coverage," says
Sandilands. "Most policies don't
cover damages caused by floods or
earthquakes. Are there any other
restrictions on your coverage? W1,1
your insurance pay for emergencyac-
commodation if the house is
destroyed? If you're unsure about any
aspect of your policy, have a chat with
your insurance agent or broker."
Insurance costs vary between com-
panies. When arranging household in-
surance for the first time or renewing
an old policy, shop around for the best
combination of price, coverage and
reliability, Sandilands suggests.
