BANTAMS SPLIT
The Exeter bantams split a pair ofl
Western Ontario Athletic Association
playoff games in Listowel on the
weekend.
After being rained out Saturday,
the local bantam club came back Sun-
day to edge St. Marys 12-11 and then
dropped a 9-4 decision to Walkerton.
Their next playoff outing was ex-
pected to be last night Tuesday with
Walkerton supplying the opposition.
In Sunday's first game coach Gary
Hartman's charges came up four
runs in the bottom of the sixth inning
to squeak out the one run victory.
Scott Russell started the winning
rally with a walk, Dave Dalrymple
doubled, Brett Borden drew a free
pass and Harlen Tinney whacked a
two -bagger to plate the runs.
In the Exeter first, Mark Burton
walked, Dave Dalrymple singled and
both came around to score as Harlen
Tinney homered.
A pair of walks and a Kevin
Wallace double and Dave Dalrymple
produced three more runs in the se-
cond frame.
The other two scores for Exeter
came in the fourth as Mark Burton
was hit by a pitch, Dave Dalrymple
singled, Brett Borden sacrificed and
Harlen Tinney singled.
Scott Russell was on the mound for
Exeter for the first four innings with
Dave Dalrymple coming in to toss the

four batters of the six outs he
recorded.
In the second game loss to Walker-
ton, three of the four Exeter runs

Royals allowing five hits while strik-
ing out seven batters. Ernie Schlegal
picked up the win for Nairn allowing
six hits while striking out three bat-
ters. He retired the last 16 batters.
Notes
Fred Cook says lack of hitting and
a lack of interest by some players led
to the first two losses. Several players
failed to show in game two.
"Some players are giving 100 per-
cent while others areh't interested.
Hopefully they will soon get in-
terested or we'll be watching", says
Fred.
Former Lieury pitcher Derwyn
Hodgins was recently added to the Ot-
tawa Turpin lineup for the Canadian
Championship in P.E.I.!
