The long awaited and much need-

Exeter Villa located on John Street

home beds and 40 rest home or retire-
ment lodge beds.

Tom Kannampuzha, executive
director of Kannampazha Holdings
Ltd. said he is certainly happy to be
ablk to establish the facility in Exeter.
He added, I'm especially pleased
with the nursing home committee and
the interest they have shown. Their
sincere interest was an incentive to
locate here. We also appreciate the
support of the town council."
Council has already backed an ap-
plication to the Ontario Ministry of
Health for an additional 30 nursing
home beds made earlier this year.
Kannampuzha indicating provi-
sions were put into the existing plans
to provide expansion saying, "We en-
vision having 60beds in each section
as a 10 year project."
The nursing home operator who
resides in Mississauga has been in the
business for more than 15 years.
He is a mechanical engineer by
trade specializing in industrial
engineering and has done consulting
work with Ontario Hydro, Douglas
Aircraft and Campbell Soups.
Kannampuzha says he changed to
a human engineer 15 years ago and
completed his nursing home ad-
ministrator qualifications in 1984.
__His wife is a registered nurse and
a son at 22 years of age is going into
medicine and a 21 year-old daughter
plans to study dentistry.
In addition to Exeter Villa, Kan-
nampuzha Holdings own two other
nursing homes, one of which is ac-
credited for three years. This is the
highest level of excellence that can be
achieved in Canada.
There are 340 nursing homes with
29,000 beds in the province of On-
tario. The majority of these homes
are owned by private enterprise.
Kannampuzha pointed out that
owners of private nursing homes pay
realty taxes, business taxes and mor -
tgages and are under close inspection
by the Ministry of Health.
The Exeter Villa owner said he con-
ducted a survey in Huron County in
1980 and learned Exeter was without
a nursing home. Shortly after this
survey, a nursing home committee
headed by Iry Armstrong and Doug
Gould was formed.
In early 1982, various committees
were named including building and
finance. Before much headway was
made, Kannamp izha made contact
with mayor Bruce Shaw, a member
of the original committee and that's
when Exeter Villg hit the planning
stages.
The Villa has now been in operation
at almost full capacity since late June
of this year.
Exeter Villa administrator Irwin
Johnston has held similar positions in
Huron County for more than eight
years.
Registered nurse Kathy O'Reilly is
director of care, Julie Morris is food
supervisor and activity co-ordinator
is Beth Jamieson.
Dr. Y. Lam is the advisory physi-
cian with registered nurses on duty at
all times in the nursing home and on
call in the rest home section..
The ribbon to officially open Exeter
Villa will be cut at 2:30 p.m. Monday
afternoon, to be followed by a tour of
the facility.
