Successful Bean
Rain or shine, the Zurich Bean
Festival is a winner. The unsettled
weather did not deter many for whom
the Festival has become an annual
tradition. A long line-up waited pa-
tiently in the morning drizzle for their
sausage and pancake breakfast, serv-
ed up by the Zurich Minor Athletic
fit .

When the rain persisted, volunteers
lugged picnic tables off the streets,
and set up bean dinner service in both
the arena and the fire hall.
In the afternoon, while the Aces
High BMX cyclists thrilled their au-
dience in the community centre with
their trick riding, the entertainment
committee crossed their fingers and
decided to use the outdoor stage for
the Guse family and the comedy
magician. By the time the frogs were
hopping around in their contest, the
sun was shining on the 21st Annual
Zurich Bean Festival.
Approximately 3,000 bean dinners
were served, slightly more than last
year. Although the bottom line will
not be known until November,
organizers are optimistic that this
year's Festival will do better finan-
cially than last year's which donated
$5,000 to the arena. $500 to the
playground and $S00 to the local
figure skating club.
A young lady from London won the
dinner ticket draw for the gas

the quilt made by the Blue Water Rest
