Gilbert Scharf. It was followed by a luncheon in his honor. Trip to Wonderland A good time was had by about 15 teenagers who went to Canada's Wonderland in Toronto by way of Ellison Travel service last Thursday. The group consisted of kitchen workers at Hessenland along with some of their friends. Rural Life picnic On Sunday the Catholic Rural Life Conference group held a picnic and barbecue supper in Parkhill at the Sacred Heart Church Parish. Baptism Andrew Cornelius DeGroot, son of Bill and Brenda, was baptized Sun- day, August 10 at St. Peter's Church, St. Joseph's by Fr. Bensette with his godparents being Don and Elaine Beauchamp. A get-together at the baby -s home followed. Competes at Convention Miss Jody Hay, the 1985 Zurich Fair Queen attended the Agricultural Societies Convention in Toronto and competed in the C.N.E. Beauty Pageant. She was among 108 other girls competing from all over Ontario. Jody was away from Friday, August 8 to Wed. August 13 and enjoyed the experience very much. Personals Miss Donna Merner, Toronto, spent the previous weekend with her parents Arnold and Belle Merner and attended the 40th wedding anniver- sary party of Jack and Flossie Cud - more in Dashwood on Sat. Aug. 9. Sister Lauretta Farwell of Caledonia visited recently with her brother Clarence Farwell at the Maple Woods Apts. and her sister, Marcella Dietrich at the Blue Water Rest Home along with other relatives in the area, and Bill and Helene Regier in Mt. Carmel. Ruth Peachey, son John and wife Carol Peachey with their son Mark of Sarasota Florida visited recently with friends, Earl and Doreen Oesch for a few days. Last Thursday, Aug. 7, Carmel Sweeney and her aunt Rose Harvey (who's at the cottage) spent the day in Sarnia visiting with Carmel's sister. Carol and Bill Butler Jules Corriveau from Bloomfield Hills Michigan spent from the previous Thursday to Sunday with his brother, Wilfred Corriveau, also visiting with his sister-in-law, Mrs. Nora Corriveau, Wilfred's daughter Beverly Morris from Lake Orion, Michigan also spent last weekend with him, and sister Barb Rau and family. Sister Rose Rau, formerly from the Pines Convent in Chatham has been spending the last three weeks with her parents, Charlie and Madeline Rau at RR 2 Zurich, and her relatives in the area. Sister Rose has been a nun for 30 years. On September 21 she leaves for Dover Massachusetts where she will be in a study program until Christmas. Last Wednesday a nice day was had by Marg Suplat and son Wade along with Agnes Willert and two sons PRIZE — Blue Water Rest Home Ladies Auxiliary president Marie Gelinas and president-elect Mary Lou Erb stands beside the quilt that will be the prize in a draw at Saturday's Bean Festival. Tickets will be available at the Auxiliary's dessert booth. Anne Besozzi and son Steven i San Francisco, California along with her twin sister, Barb O'Connor are presently spending their annual month's vacation this August with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kane and will be joined by their husbands shortly. Gertie Fleischauer spent the long weekend in Port Elgin at a cottage with her daughter and husband, Marion and Larry Rogers and fami- ly. Gertie was also the lucky winner of a beautiful quilt at the Stanley Township Sesquicentennial celebration. One of the cast members of "An- nie" now playing at the Huron Coun- try Playhouse until September 5 is Aimee Gelinas, Zurich. Mrs. Myrtle Masse is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. The rain last Sunday 10 didn't dampen the spirits or appetites of those at the St. Boniface K of C pic- nic. About 300 people from the area enjoyed barbecued pig done on a spit, 65-70 dozen cobs of corn along with the trimmings, hot dogs and ice cream cones for the kids or' who wanted them. All were able to eat inside the school because of the weather. Farewell to Rene and Marie Van Bommel and family from RR 1 Dashwood who have moved to the Mt. Brydges area. Richard and Joan Bedard of Toron- to spent the last two weeks on vaca- tion with his parents Gerald and Helen Bedard. Congratulations to Beverly Ducharme and Russell Jones who were married Aug. 9 in London at St. John Divine Church in a ceremony of- ficiated by her brother Father Gary Ducharme of Windsor. The bride is the daughter of Gerard and Mary Ducharme, RR 2 Zurich. The couple is residing in London. Fr. Gary Ducharme, Windsor, is spending the month on holidays visiting with his parents Gerard and Mary Ducharme and several relatives, friends and family members in the area. Bruce and Louise Church have returned to their home in Arkansas after spending the Last month with his sister Miss Ruth Church and on the way home visited with her sister in the States. A good turnout was present for the Lions Club golf tournament held at the Bayview Course on Saturday, August 9. STIRRING — Charlie Eckel checks the beans in the cookers.
