Training campfor junior Hawks starts August 24
Everyone knows that time flies and the Fummer will soon be
over. That fact was driven closer to home this week with a visit
from Ron Bogart, president of the newly organized Exeter junior
Hawks.
General manager Dan Brintnell and coach Dave Bogart have
set the opening of fall training camp for Sunday, August 24 at 6
p.m. at the Stephen township arena at Huron Park.
Coach Dave Bogart has started with a list of,75 names of
players who are eligible and could be interested in playing with
the 1986-87 edition of the Hawks.
The response received has been remarkable and a large
number of prospects are expected at the first workout. Despite the
great number of replies, anyone else wishing to try out should call
Dan Brintnell at 235-1953 or Dave Bogart at 235-0847.
The territory from which the Hawks are able to draw players
is very large. They are free to sign players from anywhere within
the confines of the counties of Huron, Perth and Middlesex in-
cluding the cities of London and Stratford,
In addition, they would be allowed by Ontario Hockey Associa-
tion rules to sign two players from outside these designated areas
who would fall into the import category.
The Hawks will also have a new on -ice look as far as uniforms
are concerned. They will back to short pants and socks along with
new sweaters along the line of the Pittsburgh Penguins with the
Hawks name running diagonally acrosk the -front.
The new regime for the Exeter and area junior Hawks come
into the new season with a lot of enthusiasm and this is bound to
rub off on the players.
President Ron Bogart told us, "I think we will be a lot better
than last year. We need three or four more solid defencemen and

better goal tending. The forwards last year were not that bad".
Dave Bogart comes to the local coaching job after a four year
playing career at Laurier University in Waterloo and two years
as assistant coach at the University of Ohio in Athens, Ohio. .
Hockey schools continue
While the subject of hockey, three hockey schools in this area
are continuing for the month of August. They are the Huron school
at the Stephen township arena, the Shamrock school at the Lucan
arena and the Fundamentals in Action School at the Ilderton arena.
The FIA school at Ilderton is operated by former NHL'er
Whitey Stapleton. Shipka area resident Roger Ratz is involved in
the operation of the school. One of the instructors last week was
former NHL goalie Gerry Desjardine.
Stapleton's clinical program has been adopted for this winter
by the Exeter Minor Hockey Association.
During the last week of August the Huron Hockey School will
feature their professional program with about 65 pros and promis-
ing youngsters expected to attend.
