Church of God
There was an adult Bible study
Wednesday evening, as Rev. Bar-
nhart led a discussion on Revelation
2:1-7. The Church of Ephesus al that
time. was big on doctrine and small
on love - they forgot the importance
of loving people, not merely obeying
laws.
On Saturday evening the Youth
Group had a combined beach and bir-
thday party. They went swimming at
Port Blake. then were invited to
Morley and Millie Desjardine for hot
dogs. cake and ice cream, for Carol
Peebles' birthday.
Sunday morning, Rev. Barnhart
spoke from I John 1:1-7 for his homi-
ly. St. John wrote the letter to correct
four errors in the church at the time.
One group had trouble accepting
Jesus' humanity; another doubted
His Divinity; some felt they should
love God but weren't too sure about
His Son, and some felt they could love
God without loving their neighbours.
Marilyn MacGregor sang a special
solo, the "Arms of Love."
On Sunday evening, Rev. Cecile
Barnhart spoke from Phillipians
2:19-30 on the ministry of Timothy and
Aphroditus. Afterwards there was a
hymn sing of old favprites.

BeiII payoff underway
What a come back! With a score of
30 to 0 the Grand Bend Tigers, who
play in the mites league, ages 8-10
years, totally overwhelmed the team
from ParkhlU in Saturday morning's
game. This gives the Tigers the en-
viable record of nine out of ten wins
and assures them of a move into the
playoffs.
The only game they didn't take was
the loss to Lieury on Wednesday
night. At the end of regular play the
score was tied 3-3. Moving into sud-
den death overtime, the Tigers miss-
ed by a whisker - losing the game 4-3.
But the heartbreaker loss didn't
break their spirit and they fought
back to regain their winning edge
against Parkhill.

New play
underway
The award-winning play, Salt -
Water Moon opened at Huron Coun-
try Playhouse on July 29 for two
weeks of performances. Author David
French tells the timeless story of two
young people in love, in a beautiful
play touched with the magic of a sum-
mer night in Newfoundland.
Salt -Water Moon is playful and ir-
resistibly charming, full of wit and
the distinct flavour of Newfoundland.
This award-winning play has been a
hit from coast to coast and provides
the perfect combination of humour
and romance: The Globe and Mail
called it "a gen4 of a play, an old
fashioned love song that is affecting,
funny and as evocative as a dream."
After a year of work on the
mainland, Jacob Mercer, played by
Steven Sutcliffe,, returns to Coley's
Point, to recapture the heart of Mary
Snow, played by Laurie Paton,. the
girl he abandoned when he abruptly
left town a year. before. In his
absence, Mary has become engaged
to the local school teacher. Jacob tries
everything to wadi her love again,
everything front running down
Mary's fiance to sparking Mary's
jealousy with stories of all the girls he
took to the movies in the big city. He
even pretends ignorance of the con-
stellations, almost turning an
astronomy lesson into a kissing,
session.
Director Steven Schipper adds,
"this is my favourite play of the
season. It's such a beautiful play, and
so romantic, yet its humour and
bravery allow it to be loved by even
the toughest heart." Brian Perchaluk,
Huron Country Playhouse's Resident
Designer will bring to life on stage,
this quaint Newfoundland outport
with Lighting Design by Adair
Redish.
Salt -Water Moon is produced with
the assistance of Labatt's Ontario
Breweries and runs at the Playhouse
from July 29 to August 9. For more in-
formation, call 238-8451.
