Three consecutive wins for Express senior basebaliers
The Exeter Express scored three
consecutive win.s this week in the
Great Lakes -Western Ontario -London
senior baseball league.
Tuesday, the Express downed the
Wa erton juniors by a 16-4 count and
Sun4ay they defeated the Walkerton
seniors in a doubleheader 13-2 and
14-5. All games were in Exeter.
In Thursday's win the Express
scored runs in every inning but the
first in a game which was called
because of darkness in the fifth
inning.
The Express counted three times in
the second inning with singles coming
from the bats of Bob McDonald, Jeff
Fuller and Dave -Bogart.
In the third Paul Gilmour walked,
Greg Hern, singled and Jeff Fuller
doubled to provide the power for
another three run rally. Seven more
runs crossed the plate in the fourth on
five base hits. Dave Bogart slamm-
ed out a pair of doubles in the one in-
ning. Greg Hern contributed a home
run and singles were notched by Dave
Shaw and Dave Atthill.
Designated hitter Kevin Hern led
off the Express fifth with a home run
and he was followed across the plate
by Don MacDonald and Bob
McDonald before the game was call-
ed in the bottom of the fifth with
nobody out. -
Brian Horner went the full five in-
nings on the mound and was touched
for only three hits. he struck out four.
In Sunday's first game against
Walkerton, Steve Pearce tossed the
five inning regulation game and
recorded three strikeouts while allow-
ing five hits and two runs in the se-
cond inning.
Scoring for the Express again came
thick and fast with four runs in their
first turn at the plate.
Walks to Don MacDonald and Paul
Gilmour along singles by Jim Guen-
ther and Brian Horner and a Dave At-
thill double helped produce the first
rally of the day.
In the third the Express sent 10 bat-
ters to the plate and seven came
around to score. Dave Shaw and Don
MacDonald doubled and singles were
added by Dave Atthill, Bob McDonald
and Brian Horner.
The final two runs materialized in
the fourth when Paul Gilmour walk-
ed and Brian Horner singled and both
scored on a Willie Sentjens hit.
In the second half of Sunday's twin
bill all Walkerton runs came in the
first inning off starter Brian Horner.
He survived that setback and tossed
two scoreless innings before Jeff
Fuller took over. Horner struck out
three and Fuller fanned four.
The first three batters for the Ex-
press in the first singled, but only one
run was produced. Getting the hits
were Don MacDonald, Greg Hern and
Dave Shaw.
Dave Shaw's home run was the big
blow in.a three run third Inning. Other
hits came from the bats of Greg Hern
and Jim Guenther.

In the fourth, singles delivered by
Don MacDonald, Greg Hera, Jim
Guenther, Dave Atthill helped chase
five more runs across.
Dave Atthill whacked a homer in
the bottom of the fifth to make the
score 10-5. Don MacDonald walked,
Greg Hern was hit by a pitch and both
raced home on a Dave Shaw round
tripper.
In the sixth, Atthill singled and
scored the final Express marker as
Don MacDonald and Dave Shaw
singled.

Superb conditions, a large field, and

Distilleries provided impetus for
some sparkling performance, Tues-
day night, by members of Ironwood
men's golf club.
Dave Holtzmann carded his third
sub -par club round this season to
triumph in "A" flight with a score of
33. Randy Evans was second at 39 on
countback from Bob Fletcher and
Will Chisholm.

The "A" low net prize went to Jack
Fuller at 32, with Don Gifford and Bob
Fletcher runners-up at 34.
In "B" flight, Gabby Mol was best
at 39, one stroke ahead of a pack com-
prising of Brian Taylor, Don Currell,
Wayne Pearce, and Al Taylor.
The low net crown went to Al Taylor
whose 32 capped six fine 33 net rounds
with Randy Gilfillan awarded second
net on counterback.
Victorious in "C" flight was Ken
Varley with a 41 followed by John
Maurer on countback from Jim Hoff-
man, each at 44. Roger Wallis cap-
tured divisional low net with a
memorable 30, while "C" net
bridesmaid was Fred Wells at 32.
"D" flight honours went to Terry
Wright with 46. Close was Bruce
Shaw's 47. Tim Oliver showed a
return to form and capped low net
honours with a 30, beating Jan Van
Haarlem by a stroke.
Nearest the pin on number three
was Bill Steele, while nearest the pin
on number eight was Fred Wells. In
the skins competition, Brian Taylor
won hole number one, Don Heywood
was awarded holes number two to
four, Dave Holtzmann number five
(eagle), Bob Drummond number six.
No winners emerged for seven to
nine although Randy Evans maintain-
ed his birdies assault on holes eight
and nine.
Royals host-Lieury
Thursday, the Exeter Royals
travelled to Bryanston and came
home with a 7-2 victory.
The Royals opened the scoring in
the second inning as Mike Desjardine
doubled and Tom Tordoff hit a home
run.
Bryanston tied the game in their
half of the second as Dennis Carty
walked and Doug Todd homered.

The Royals scored the winner in the
top of the fifth as Tom Tordoff singl-
ed, was sacrificed to second and
scored on Will Lamb's single.
They added their fourth run in the
sixth as Randy Kraul hit a tremen-
dous home run to left centre field.
They scored three more runs in the
seventh to secure the victory.
Brian Hodgins led off with a single,
Will Lamb and Dan Heywood hit bunt
singles. Pete Tuckey walked and
Barry Baynham doubled.
Dan Heywood picked up the win as
he tossed a three hitter while striking
out eight batters. Doug Todd took the
loss. he was relieved by Dennis Car-
ty. They combined to give up 12 hits
while striking out six batters.
The Royals are in action twice this
week. Tuesday they travel to Lucan
to play the Irish, while Thursday they
host Lieury. Their record now stands
at nine wins and nine losses.
