A hard year
Brewsters back from Halti
Rev. Roger Mason introduced Sun-
day morning former pastor Rev. Ray
Brewster, now Missionary
Superintendent of Haiti and Jamaica,
for the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Mrs. Becky Brewster told that
through the past hard year in Haiti,
that prayer and God's power gave
them peace.
Rev. Brewster said he believed that
Baby Doc Duvalier left Haiti because
of the prayers of God's people that
spared a bloody revolution. The mor-
ning Duvalier left the army band
played on the palace lawn, with
crowds of people around. But later
that day it turned to violence. The
curfew that kept people indoors from
early evening to dawn made for a lot
of boredom. The communists laid a
million dollars in twenty dollar bills
in the streets for trouble makers to
cause trouble. During all this trouble
no missionaries or Christians were
hurt. Because Haitians have been
unable to speak out for thirty years

Sunday speakers
from Ivan church
Lucan United Church was especial-
ly blessed on Sunday morning to have
Jack Giles and His wife Mary take
charge of the service. The Giles live
in Ilderton and attend Ivan United
Church.
Mary in her talk, based on Phil 4
verse 13 - "I can do all things thru
Christ who strengthens me" told of
her healing from arthritis and related
health problems, by the laying on of
hands and prayer.
The real meaning of the verse came
to her as "I can do everything God
wants me to", she exorted each one
of us, not to limit God, by our refusal
to obey Him when He calls us, but to
surrender all, to believe "all things
are possible" to use pain as a positive
force, not to glory in it, but accept
what God gives each day and be
thankful for that day whatever it
brings.
One example was Paul, who was
never healed from his afflictions even
though he prayed for healing, God
had other plans - Trust Him to give us
strength to bear whatever He chooses
for us. The children's story, told by
Jack was about an eagle set down
among chickens.
This was really the old adage - If we
fly with "crows we will never soar
with eagles", meaning those we
choose as friends and associates in-
dicate, in many respects, what we
ourselves are and certainly what our
values are.
The Giles sang two beautiful duets,
one entitled, "I found the answer, I
learned to pray".

the country is on the verge of anarchy
now. Haiti needs prayer.
Rev. Brewster ministered from
Ephesians 6:11-18. Praying is a very
important part of the armour of God.
Rev. Brewster stated that in Haiti,
and in every church they have been
in while travelling in U.S.A. and
Canada, there had been spiritual pro-
blems in the devil's scheme to destroy
what God wants to do in people's
lives. It is time Christians realize they
are the church of the living God, and
act like it. It is time for the church to
take authority against the devil's
schemes.
Sunday evening Rev. Ray Brewster
said in the past five years since they
have been in Haiti, there have been
many hard and exciting things hap-
pening. Since Mr. Devalier left the
people have risen up against the
voodoo devil religion. How there is a
great move to get a Christian presi-
dent in Haiti. During the riots Chris-
tians gathered in the churches to
pray. Many Haitians have turned to
God as they are realizing God is the
bnly stable force. February 7, the day
Duvalier left, the new president form-
ed a council of evangelical men to
help in governing the country. Now
there is great opportunity to preach
the gospel. On July 29 the tom-tom
Macouts, Duvalier's police force,
celebrate their anniversary. They
were disbanded, but 40,000 were arm-
ed. There are stiII 10,000 arms unac-
counted for. Haitians plan to kill these
opressors, the tom-tom Macouts 'on 29
July. The Christians are praying for
peace.
Rev Brewster told about their
children wanting to do missionary
work for Haitian children. They ask
for sponsors for Haitian children.
Last Christmas Steven and Nathan
Brewster brought Christmas dinner
to children in an orphanage, of rice,
beans, goat, and ice cream. Haitian
children never see ice cream. Last
year when they returned to Haiti they
brought crayons and coloring books
to the children at the school they at-
tend in Port au Prince. Haitian
children cannot affort good food, let
alone crayons. Rev. Brewster show-
ed slides of Hait.
Thewhitepalace of Duvalier is now
government offices. Children carry
water often a mile, in jars. Churches
in the country are made of brush, call-
ed brush arbors, which serves as
school and church. Powdered milk,
rice, beans, wheat, corn, is shipped in-
to Haiti by missionary churches and
is used each day to feed the Haitian
children in the church schools one
meal a day.
In Souce Piante where the govern-
ment tore down all the houses, Rev.
Brewster has raised money to build
seven houses, with three more in con-
struction. They have raised enough
funds to build more houses. They
have a church there now.

You name it -
he can do it
Is he a magician?.... A come-
dian?....A juggler? He i sail three and
then some! Armed with only a suit-
case and a sharp wit, Tom Kubinek
has brought his unique brand of good-
natured lunacy to thousands. of peo-
ple across Canada, the United States
and Mexico.
His award winning show has been
featured at Exhibitions, theatres and
International children's festivals in-
cluding such places as the New
Orleans World fair, theCanadian Na-
tional Exhibition and Expo '86.
His magic comedy and juggling act
is built aroung a low-key, rueful, shy-
ly mischievous character with a wry
sense of humour. His comic strategy
is artful, his timing precise, and he
achieves a richly satisfying
performance.
