Stewart family holds reunion at Poplar Hill park
As has been the case for the past 58
years, the weatherman did it again!
He stopped the rain and brought us a
nice balmy day, as our president,
Mrs. Elizabeth Black, found out when
she arrived in Poplar Hill for the 59th
gathering of the Stewart families, and
what a great group we had!
It's amazing how each family
bringing one food dish to a buffet can
bring such a variety – absolutely
nothing was missing. We can thank
the incoming president, LaVerne
Harrison, for securing the nicely ar-
ranged ham and turkey platters, an
innovation this year.
After the dinner, the president
welcomed everyone and introduced
Mrs. Margaret Bennet -Alder of
Toronto, who told of the work she has
done so far on producing the history
of the "Jack and Hill" branch and
brought forms to be completed by the
various families, which will be run on
a computer. She is hoping to have it
completed, with pictures, for our 60th
anniversary next year.
The minutes and treasurer's report
were adopted as printed and posted.
The secretary, Evelyn McNaughton,
drew attention to some 15 letters
received from families unable to at-
tend this year, mostly because of
distance. Five births, five marriages,
were recorded, and a moment's
silence was observed for eleven
members who passed away during
the year.
Past president, Stewart Norwood of
Dearborn, Michigan, presented
prizes, which he donated, to Well-
ington Siddall who had the most
"plastic" in his wallet; to Wilma
McIntosh who keeps her diary in her
purse; and to David Stewart Ander-
son, of Mississauga, who was the
youngest person present (10 weeks),
and was there with his parents, and
grandparents, Donald and Irla
Stewart of Goderich.
Greg McIntosh of Fort McMurray,
Alberta, won a tartan toaster cover
which had been made by Marion

After all this excitement, Ronald
Stewart, Toronto, led us in a number
of rousing selections to help settle our
dinner. I'm sure all the residents of
Poplar Hill were listening to the
resonance of that beautiful baritone!
President Elizabeth thanked all who
helped with- the arrangements.
especially the lunch conveners,
Bessie and Hugh Baird, and Evelyn
McNaughton who has been secretary -
treasurer for the past nine years, and
was embarraased as "for she's a jol-
ly good fellow" boomed out.
While Catherine and Lyle Harrison
carried out an interesting sports pro-
gram for a great group of enthusiasts,
others browsed through the
secretary's book which contains the
minutes from 1927, read the account
of the Stewart Reunion in the 1937
copy of the Ailsa Craig Banner, or
talked with Margaret about her
History project.
