Institute at Kirkton entertain 4-H girls On June 18 the 4-H girls, mothers and leaders were invited to the cultural activities meeting of Kirkton Womens Institute. Mrs. Jack Wiles, vice president, presided. Roll call was answered with "something the younger generation has taught me. t On July 31 a picnic will be held at 2 p.m. with a pot luck Lunch at Kirkton-Woodham centre. Members will be attending Grand Bend Playhouse on August 12 and a motion passed that we travel by bus and stop later for lunch. An invitation was read Campsite experience. More than 120 United Church Women of Huron -Perth Presbyterial enjoyed a day at Camp Bimini. Food for thought was provided by presen- tations about the history of the camp, illustrated with slides, and of Five Oaks Christian Workers Centre at Paris. Food for the soul came from Marion Jackson -Tyler of Stratford who conducted worship, and food for the body came in the form of a Pot Luck Lunch. Other features of the day were live- ly sing -songs conducted by Marion MacDougald and Barb Jefferson of Than%sville; and an explantion of Liturgical Colours and Symbols by Linda Hawley of Exeter who modell- ed articles of clerical vestments. Phyllis Cox of Goderich was in charge of all arrangements, including baby-sititng for pre-school children who came with their mothers. to attend Hurondale WI picnic on August 13 in Exeter. Miss Maureen Blackler, and Miss Carol Willis were presented with gifts on completion of 12 clubs, by Mrs. Ellis Strahan. A poem, "Things with a country flavor" was read by Mrs. Roger Ur- quhart. Mrs. lion Denham then in- troduced Darlene Atkinson and An- drea Blackler, who spoke on their science class project "The Best Hous- ing for the Three Little Pigs" - relating to the best floors for baby pigs - metal, plastic and cement. They were thanked by Mrs. Roger Urquhart, who then introduced, Jim Tyler of St. Marys, who spoke on the origins and techniques of stained glass. He was presented with a gift by Mrs.RonDenham.A contest was con- ducted on Blanshard recreational trivial pursuit. A lovely lunch was served by the committee. Mike Cregan presents her with a gift on behalf of her fellow employees. • WINS AWARD United Co-operatives of Ontario (UCO) has awarded six scholarships to students at the province's agricultural colleges. The recipients were honored in recognition of their outstanding performance at school. The scholarships are part of UCO's continuing program of distinguishing "excellence in leadership and respon- sibility" among young persons in Ontario. The scholarships, each worth 8175, were awarded at the recipient's graduation by a representative of UCO. Robert Heyns, of Owen Sound won at Centralia College. Robert, 23, com- pleted the two-year diploma cense in agriculttsrettainess manage thent, a program !bYnbining busitteks- and farm management, livestock, agronomy, and engineering. He was involved in the Resident's House Committee and intramural sports at Centralia. He's working in UCO's Owen Sound sales and service centre as store clerk on a part-time basis. Robert lives on his family's 'dairy farm outside of Owen Sound.
