Ask about early faith • mos -Advocate, June, 18, 1986 • Z Pogo 7 Conf=or faith was the subject of the periRev. Hawley t the June meeting of the Exeter UrC.W. Members were aaked'about their early thoughts of God and had subse- quent life experiences changed those thoughts. Had they also changed words used to address God? Follow- ing the reading of Psalm 111, members were asked to list some at- tributes of God and then were asked did they use these attributes to solve problems and as a help in searching for faith. Alma Langford, group leader, in- troduced guest speaker Mrs. Muriel Coultes, former president of Huron - Perth Presbyterial. Mrs. Coultes was one of 15 IJ.C. women who visited Mexico for 10 days to gain an understanding of Christian struggle in Latin America. Their headquarters were at an ecumenical centre in Cuernavaca founded in conjunction with Bishop Sergio Mendez Arceo in 1977. From this centre the women visited a poor community each day. They found that lack of food, water, sanitation, proper 'hygiene practises, caused much suf- fering and ill health. The people are now meeting in groups for reading and Bible study. Individual members of these groups then form other groups so that the message of God's love is spreading an bringing comfort. The pictures and accompaning commentary gave the women a very clear picture of the life in that part of the third world. During the business period con- ducted by Olive Thomson, Madeline Witmer, promoted the archives; Laura Dickey announced we will henceforth send used stamps to the Bible Society; Jean Murray thanked the ladies for their help at the Friend- ship Tea; Barb Harrison reported all youth groups flourishing; Marion Dearing completed plans for the trip to Camp Bimini June 17th; and it was decided to have a potluck dinner at the September meeting.
