Birdbrain vs
mother love
saturciay evening, at the Playhouse
barbecue, I saw an interesting com-
bination of a "birdbrain" versus
mother love. A killdeer had laid three
speckled eggs on the pavitdijnt, luta
ptte of-stanes,-near the edge -of ttr _
parking lot.
No doubt when she picked her
nesting site, nary a soul was to be
seen, but on Saturday over 1000 peo-
ple were milling around, and she was
frantically ,flapping her wings and
cheeping loudly to keep them from
treading on her precious eaggs. She
was exhausted by the end of the even-
ing, but gamely standing her ground.
One can only hope that her eggs hatch
soon, before the regular Playhouse
season starts, so she can lead- her
babies to a safer spot!
