What a sale!
On May 12-16 Usborne had a Book
Fair. There were three cabinets. One
of them watt full of primary books.
The other two were for kids about
seven years old and up. Most books
ranged from $1. to 84. One Garfield
book was $4.50. There were comedy,
serious and youngster books. I bought
one called "Sideways Stories from
Wayside School." Bookmarks and
doorknob hangers were sold for 25e.
I'd say we had a pretty good sale.

00 the Ottawa!
Wednesday May 14 the Grade eight
class left the school at 7 a.m. for our
trip to the Nation's Capital.
After arriving in Ottawa we visited
many interesting museums. Not on-
ly did we visit Parliament, we went
to the Supreme Court of Canada.
While we were at the Parliament
Buildings, Murray Cardiff came out
to talk to us and he presented our Stu-
dent's Council president with a new
Canadian flag. After our guided tour
of the buildings we got to sit in on
"Question Period."
On the way home from our trip we
stopped at Upper Canada Village. We
arraived back at Usborne at 10:30
p.m. on Friday, May 16. Everyone
agreed that our bus driver was ex-
cellent and helped make our trip a
success.

Kootstra site
passes test
Preliminary test results on the
number one site under consideration
for a location of a new Seaforth-
Tuckersmith landfill site have been
favorable and the landfill site com-
mittee has announced approval for
phase two of the testing to begin.
The testing, which involved boring
holes to examine soil and determine
the technical acceptability of the site
for landfilling purposes, proved
"favorable enough to proceed with
phase two," said Seaforth Chief Ad-
ministrator Jim Crocker.
The first stage of the testing cost the
municipalities approximately $15,000,
with phase two costs estimated at
atbther $25,000. The committee opted
to do the testing in two phases, in
order to give them the option of aban-
doning the site if tests proved it un-
suitable after the first phase, there
saving the cost of second phas
testing. Complete testing of the si
was initially estimated to cost $40,00
to $50,000, said Crocker.
The Kootstra site was ranked
number one of nine sites in
Tuckersmith Township, based on
criteria established by the landfill
committee in conjunction with the
Ministry of Environment.
Public health, safety, social . en-
vironment, natural environment,
cultur'h) environment, availability
and site size make up the criteria for
judging site acceptability.
The committee is expected to ac-
cept a recommendation to add
another member to the landfill com-
mittee, Crocker announced. After
meeting with a group of residents who
live near the proposed site, he said,
it was deemed advisable to appoint a
member of the resident group to the
committee, which would then include
two members each from Seaforth and
Tuckersmith councils, one resident of
Seaforth and two from Tuckersmith.
Dick Roorda, of Tuckersmith will
be the new Member.
