A committee to study long-term
solutions for shoreline management.
along the Great Lakes has been ap-
pointed by an order -in -council, On-
tario Natural Resources Minister Vin-
cent Kerrio and Municipal Affairs
Minister Bernard Grandmaitre an-
nounced recently.
The seven members pamed to the
Shoreline Management Review Com-
mittee include representatives from
provincial and municipal govern-
ments as well as the general public.
"We can't control extreme water
level fluctuations in the Great Lakes,
but we can work to minimize poten-
tial damage to shorline homes and
properties," said Mr. Kerrio. "This
committee will examine and make
recommendations on options for long-
term shoreline management, as well
as look at the roles and respon-
sibilities of the various levels of
government and private
landowners."
"The committee will look at the
roles of private and public sector in
solving existing problems, preventing
new ones, and providing emergency
assistance in combatting flood and
erosion problems," Mr. Kerrio said.
"This could entail determining how
remedial works should be planned to
solve existing problems in built-up
areas, and how better land use plan-

McGuigan, MPP for Kent -Elgin and
Parliamentary Assistant to Mr.
Kerrio.
The other members of the commit-
tee are Gord Miller, MPP for
Haldimand-Norfolk; Roger
Vermeulen, a councillor for the
township of Delhi; Ray Lavereau,
reeve of the village of Port Stanley;
Shannon Olson of Woodslee, vice-
chairman of the Essex Region Con-
servation Authority; John Plyley of
Stevensville, a real estate sales
representative; and Reid Kreutz-
wiser, Associate Professor at the
University of Guelph, who has
technical expertise in this field.
"The extensive damage caused by
high water levels over the past year
- especially along Lake Erie, Lake St.
Clair and southern Lake Huron - has
shown us that short-term relief
measures aren't enough," said Mr.
Grandmaitre. "We need to find ways
to prevent this type of damage from
recurring".
The committee will hold a
minimum of 12 public meetings this
summer in communities along the
Great Lakes shoreline in Ontario. The
meetings will allow members of the
public who are directly affected by
high water levels to make their con-

AT CONFERENCE
Some 90 Bible college presidents,
deans, faculty and staff gathered on
May 22-24 from 34 Bible college cam-
puses in 8 provinces for the 27th An-
nual Conference of the Association of
Canadian Bible College (A.C.B.C.) on
the Peterborough, Ontario campus of
Eastern Pentecostal Bible College.
This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Ed-
mund Clowney, former president of
Westminster Theological Seminary
inspired and challenged conference
delegates wig five messages regar-
ding "The Church and its Mission".
The Conference delegates gathered
many useful insights to helpAhem im-
prove the services of their colleges
through the nine workshops offered on
topics such as faculty evaluation and
development, professors as
disciplers, teaching spiritual
disciplines, legal issues and computer
services in the bible college, training
pastors, and the future of bible col-
leges in Canada. Lively informal
discussions over coffee and meals
added more personal interaction.
Christianview Bible College,
located in Ailsa Craig, was
represented at this year's conference
by Dr. G. H. Nunn, President; Ruth
Nunn, Registar; and Emma Crouch,
Director of Christian Education.
Held developed the one hour talk
around the theme "A Worldwide
Brotherhood Saved From Calamity".
After mentioning several facts and
statistics with regard to world dif-
ficulties, the speaker went on to say
"Since 1914 this world has lived
through one calamity after another,
and many people now live in constant
fear of the possibility of a global
nuclear calamity. However "con-
tinued Held, "the Bible gives hope
that a great crowd of righteous teo-
ple from all the nations will survive
as they look forward to divine in-
tervention in world affairs in the near
future and the elimination of
mankind's'problems forever."
Jehovah's Witnesses, who believe
the time for God to intervene is close
at hand, actively engage in house to
house evangelizing.
Last year throughout the world an
average of 520 persons a day were
baptized and ordained as ministers.
Twq were similarly baptized at the
Sarnia convention.
