area attended the Open House for Mr:
and Mrs. LorneHodge's 50th,Wedding
Anniversary at Crediton Community
Centre, Sunday afternoon. .Con-
gratulations Mr. and Mrs. Hodge.
A number of people from this area
attended the Fiddler's Jamboree at
South Huron lies Centre, Exeter, Sun-
day afternoon. The Usborne Guild
comprised of Ray Cann, Bill Rohde
and the piano accompanist Mrs. Reg
Hodgert played several numbers.
Church Service
Rev. Robert Matheson was in
charge of the service on Sunday mor-
ning of which the theme was mission.
Mrs. Don Kerslake was the pianist for
the service at Elimville.
Wendy Ballantyne and Carolyn
Dykeman told the children's story en-
titled "Mission". Rev. Matheson read
the scripture I Peter 1:1-9 and Luke
10:25-37. Mrs. Dennis Rowe favoured
with a solo.
The sermon was entitled "How We
Do Mission Work" with Mark
Coward, Anne Delbridge, Andy
Grubb, Michael Jeffery and Julie
Wilkinson taking part. The above
Mentioned youngpeople are to be con-
firmed next Sunday.
The C.G.I.T. girls and their leader
Mrs. Brad Cann, The Explorer Girls
and their leader Mrs. Glenn Rohde,
The Messenger Group and their
leaders Mrs. Gerry Morgan and Mrs.
Dennis Ro4,e, sat together in a body
in the church. Mrs. Don Kerslake is
the other leader of the Expiorers,
Miss Donna Kerslake is the other
leader of the C.G.I.T. girls.
Next Sunday, June 1, at 11:15 a.m.
will be Service of Confirmation and
Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.
Sunday School members that wish
to sing in the choir for Anniversary
Sunday are to be out Sunday, June 8.

Wednesday evening with Mr. and

Mrs. Mac Hodgert returned home
recently after having visited with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. John Miner and Brenda of
Vibank, Saskatchewan.
Mr. and Mrs. Barrie Oliver, New
Hamburg, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dun-
can, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Duncan, and
Mr. and Mrs. Don Rich!,idson were
guests at the Christie -Miller wedding
at Cromarty Presbyterian Church on,
Saturday, also the dinner and dance
at Kirkton-Woodham Community
Centre. Many more people from this
area attended the reception and
dance. Congratulations Jack and Bet-
ty Ann.

about Moose Factory

A silent. auction of plants, baking
and crafts followed the May meeting
of the Marian Ritchie Evening Aux-
iliary, Tuesday evening. Mary Elliott
presided and opened with a reading,
Four Things. "
Faith of our Fathers was sung
followed by the scripfure and medita-
tion on the roll of fathers in,ehris-
tian education of the family, taken by
Ruth Laing. Hazel Harburn gave a
humorous reading, The Ladies Aid,
taken from the Crieff Hills Cookbook.
Ten members answered the roll
call with the name of a father in the
Bible. We are One in the Spirit was
sung. The Presbyterial bus trip to
Camp Kintail, The Saugeen Indian
Band at Chippawa Hills and Huron
Feathers at Sauble Beach, June 25
was announced. Anyonp wishing to go
should contact a Mrian Ritchie
member before their next meeting,
June 10.
Mrs. Elliott conducted a contest,
Pun 'Country, and the programme
concluded with a hymn and the Lord's
Prayer.
The flowers in church, Sunday were
in memory of the late Jean Miller,
whose funeral was held in Mitchell on
Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Miller, when
she was able, was very active in the
Women's Missionary Society, Ladies
Aid and the choir. Sympathy is ex-
tended to her son, Lloyd, his wife,
Doris and their family.
Church services May 18 and 25 have
been cancelled so mefnbers can at-
tend Hensall and Staffa anniversary
services.
Personals
Congratulations to Ted and
Elizabeth Harburn who celebrated
their 30th wedding anniversary at The
Golden Dragon in London. Helping
them celebrate were their family,
Gail and Jim Holliday, Denise and
Scott, London; Bob and Maureen
Harburn, Richard and Christina; Jill
Harburn and Kevin O'Connor,
Cromarty. Following the dinner they
returned to Gail's home for cake and
ice cream.
Sandra Orr, Barrie, visited recent-
ly with her mother, -Eve Chabassol.
Mrs. Chabassol returned home last
week after holidaying with her sister-
in-law in Florida and her daughter
Sandra, in Barrie.
Lillian Douglas visited last week
with her friend, Mrs. Katherine Ross
and attended the Oxford South
Women's Institute District Annual at
Tillsonburg.
Jeff and Margaret Allen, Guelph
visited Sunday with her parents, Bob
and Ruth Laing, and Tom.
Congratulations to Jack and Betty
Anne Christie who were married in
Cromarty church, Saturday. Many
from here attended the wedding and
the reception which was held in the
Kirkton-Woodham Community
Centre.

Busy summer for
Kirkton Institute

The Secret Pal Supper for the
Kirkton Womens' Institute held May
21, was thoroughly enjoyed by 32
members attending the Avonton
Strawberry Supper. Each member
was given a corsage, made by the
committee in charge.
After the delicious meal, the
meeting was ffeldin the Avonton W.I.
Hall. The Institute 04Le was sung
followed by the Mary Stewart Collect.
A donation was approved for the
Children's Aid, Outdoor Adventure
'86, and an exhibit of cushions is to be
set up at St. Marys fair.
It will be a busy summer when we
cater for a graduation; entertain 4H
girls, mothers and leaders; have a
picnic in July; conveners for
stepping -out at Senior Centre; and at-
tend the Huron Country Playhouse. A
new member Mrs. Gertie Willis was
welcomed. A report of Perth South
District annual was given by
Christine Eveleigh and Dorothy
Switzer.
A quiz on a turkey game was led by
Phyllis Rodd, and then Secret Pal
gifts were exchanged. After an en-
joyable half hour fellows ' , the
meeting cloned with a poem. Thanks
to the committee in charge, Phyllis
Rodd, Shirley Brintnell and Annie
Weernink.

read an item "A definition of a
grandmother."
Everyone joined in singing
"Smile". Mrs. Jerry Grubb read a
poem "My mother's apron". The
education and cultural activities com-
mittee were in c' ' ge of this meeting.
President Mrs. s-hillp Johns presid-
ed for the remainder of the
meeting. The Opening Ode and Mary
Stewart Collect were repeated. The
roll call "Something we are all
thankful for in this modern age."
Mrs. Olga Hern, Mrs. Ivan Brock
and Mrs. Philip Johns were named as
delegates to the district annual to be
held at Grand Bend.
Mrs. Freeman Horne was named to
attend the Huron Historic Society an-
nual meeting on May 29 to be held at
Varna.
The by-laws were reviewed and will
. remain the same. The executive will
meet May 27 at 9 a.m. at Elimville
church. A social time followed the
meeting.

two weeks.
Personals
A good crowd attended the Mission
and Service Sunday held at Elimville
United Church, combined with
Thames Road. The communion class
and mid week groups took part in this
service.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Johns and Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Pym attended the
annual meeting of the London con-
ference in Sarnia on Sunday. Mr.
Lorne Thrower, formerly of the
Thames Road-Elimville charge was
ordained at this time.
Seed to Shelf
4-H club meets
Hurondale 2 held the first meeting
for the "Seed to Shelf" Garden Club
on •May 12 at 7:15 p.m. at Karen
`Etherington's. After opening with the
4-11 pledge, eight members answered
the roll call "What do you hope to
learn from this project?"
We covered many planting tips with
leaders Marjorie Dayman and Karen
Etherington.
The election of officers result was:
president- Marion Rueger; vice.
president- Sheryl Oke; secretary -
Sheila Dougall; press reporters- Tobi
Taylor and Jeff Cardiff.
Jeff adjourned the meeting. Next
meeting will be held May 21 at Tina
and Tobi Taylor's.
