Julia Duttmann, a political science
and sociology student at McMaster
j 1plyrsity, is seal close-u_view
of how theory wort IA practice. On
April .30 she began 18 weeks of
employment in the Hensall municipal
office under the sponsorship of the
provincial government's Involvement
in Municipal Administration
Basi ,des being an enjoybale ex-
perience, Julia said the temporary
job intro been a real eye-opener.
Although she has lived in Hensa11 all
her life, she had no idea of all that
must betlone behind the scene to keep
a village functioning smoothly and
well.
'I'm fairyt impressed with what gook
on in a little place', Julia confessed.
Julia has worked' on deposits,
balance,tiitg taxes, the assess-. '
ment rod, and > ailing dog tags door
to door. (The Last is at the bottom of
her list of favourite duties; she has
sold 50 tags, add figures she has about
40 more prospects out there.)
Julia derived great satisfaction
from having a correct balance for the
interim tax collection. This meant
every step of the.process had been
done correctly.
The Hensall work experience has
reinforced Julia's desire to be
employed in government. After
graduation from her honors course,
she intends to head for a job with the
provincial goverment.
