No change
in auditors
Exeter won't be changing auditors
this year, despite the fact a local firm
submitted a lower estimated' fee to
provide the service and advised coun-
cil they expected to get the job.
"Our understanding is that our
estimated fee was the lowest receiv-
ed," Stu Homuth of Norris & Homuth
wrote in reference to the request from
council to submit a bid on providing
accounting services last fall.
"In albebrda with' Mown of Ex-
eter policy we must assume that our
firm will be requested to provide the
auditing services for the Town for the
1986 fiscal year and therefore we
would appreciate being advised as to
' when this appointment will occur," he
wrote.
However, acting on a recommenda-
tion from the executive committee,
council this week agreed to continue
the service of Kime and Company.
The committee noted that
municipalities may only discharge for
"cause" and reported that the present
auditor's fees were competitive and
the firm is located in the municipali-
ty now.
Mayor Bruce Shaw acknowledged
that Norris & Homuth submitted the
lowest bid last fall, but explained that
the current auditors had reduced
their fees.
HAVE CONTEST
For the second consecutive year,
Canada Post Corporation is launching
a nation-wide, letter -writing competi-
tion in conjunction with the Univer-
sal Postal Union (UPU).
Using the theme "A Letter to a
Refugee Child", young people bet-
ween the age of 12 and 15 will be in-
vited to express why Canadia is an at-
tractive choice for someone seeking
a new country. Entries, in either of-
ficial language, must be a minimum
of 500 words. Schools across Canada
will receive full details shortly.
"The competition is part of Canada
Post's commitment to literacy", said
Mr. Andre Villeneuve, Vice-
president, Corporate
' Communications.
The United Nations High Commis-
sioner for Refugees is giving its full
support to the competition and in-
tends to publish the winning letter in
its magazine Refugees.
