Mothers Day
at Hully Gully
Mother's Day at Hully Gully was a
special event, with all mothers receiv-
ing free admission, which accounted
for a large crowd of spectators.
Rider turn out was excellent for this
OATVA sanctioned event, with 72
riders, from Peterborough to Wind-
sor, battling for the $1,000 purse,
-trophies and cash prizes.
Five new Honda 4 -wheel 250R's
showed up in force. Steve Boyd had
to settle for second behind Marty
Jackson on his Suzuki in the 4 -wheel
2 -stroke class. Boyd came back in the
open Mod to smoke everyone.
Local riders Paul Farquhar Clinton
took 1st overall in the 200 Mod, Doug F.
Wolfe, Mitchell finished 4th in the 250
Stock Class and Chuck Collins, Var-
na ended up with a -second in the 250
Mod and a third in the Open Mod. '

Sunday, May 18 at Bingeman Park in E
Kitchener and the next motospoit
event at Hully Gully is on Sunday, 3
May 25. This will be a motorcross :
event, with all classes running.

The United Church held their
' Mother's Day service Stbday with a
large attendance. Mr. Charles Zeigler
look the service assisted by Rev.
'Brian Elder, Crediton. There was
special music by the choir with Mr.
Donald Stuart at the organ.
In the serviee of baptism seven
babies were baptised: Joseph,
Thomas Juergens, son of Peter and
Debra; Zachary Paul Broderick, son
• of Susan and Paul; Erin Elizabeth
Frank and Bryant Robert Frank,
' children of Robert and Robin;
Timothy Alan Merner, son of Robert
and Leanne; Sara Catherine Joanne,
daughter of Tom and' Joanne
DeSchamps.
A congregational meeting will be
held Sunday, May 18 immediately
following the service.
Mrs. Von Overholt and Pauline
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Hayter and Justin of Dashwood.
Play Euchre
The euchre in the community cen-
tre had 12 tabled playing May 5 with
prizes going to high score- Mary Kooy
and Percy Noels; lone Bands- Agnes
Hotson and Perry Cunningham; low
score- Charlotte Barker and Frank
Hicks; lucky score- Kay Armstrong
and Art Abbott.
Next euchre on May 19 will be con-
vened by Bill and Elizabeth Lamport
and Frank and Janet Hicks.
Wednesday dinner guests with Tom
and Mary Kooy were Mr. and -Mrs.
Carl Pauptet; Toronto.
Tom and I were dinner guests on

The Merners and Tripp families
gathered at the home of Harold Tripp
for dinner Sunday following the bap-
tism of Harold's great grandson

The May Centralia UCW meeting
was held at the church May 8 with
'Donna Smith welcoming members

followed by prayer by Donna Smith.
The devotional talk on Mother's Day
was given by June Essery. Mary
Peterson and Rob Esaery sang "Faith
of our Mothers" accompanied at the
Piano by Reith Ann Emery. .
Donna Smith introduced the guest
speaker Dave McClure, who_ was
assisted by his wife, Margaret and
daughter, Molly. Slides were shown
regarding the family's experiences

Kippen United Church
Rev. Lorne Keays presided in the
pulpit of St. Andrew's on Christian
Family Sunday, May 11. Barbara
Cooper accompanied the hymns at
the organ. The ministry of music was
presented by the choir singing "The
Family of Love". Rev. Keays' ser-
mon was based on "The Home and
the Community".
The Official Board of the Pastoral
Charge will meet on Thursday May 15
at 8:30 p.m. in Kippen Church Sunday
School room.
Personals
A number of Kippen and area
residents joined in celebrating the
25th wedding anniversaries of John
and Mary McGregor, and Doug and
Anne McGregor. The brothers John
and Doug McGregor chose twin
sisters, Mary' and Anne Charters, to
be their life companions 25 years ago,
and they have jointly farmed on
neighbouring family farms for 25
years now.
Kippen East Women's Institute
On Wednesday May 21 at 8:30 p.m.,
the Kippen East Women's Institute
will hold their Education meeting at
the , home of Dorothy Bell, Exeter.

Kindergarten - On May 7 the
kindergarten class journeyed to the
Morrison Dam for a hike and nature
study. Amanda Ellyatt liked the long
walk. Michael Wilhelm liked the
snack. Brianne Czypyha ' liked the
climbers. Dawn DeJong liked
everything. Paul Gregus like the
ladybugs.
Grade one and two - Science fair
projects were judged May 1 thanks to
Family Sunday
at Cromarty

Christian Family Sunday was
observed in Cromarty Presbyterian
Church on Sunday morning. The
junior choir, with Mrs. John Scott at
the organ, sang two numbers, Look
Man and Do Lord, 0 Do Lord.
The Parable of the Talents was
read by Lisa Gardiner and Sherri
Elliott as Sunday School students
dramatized it. Michelle Martyn took
the part of the Master, with Danny
Elliott, ChristoRher Scott, and Steven
Pullman as the three servants.
Sunday School superintendent,
Mrs. Larry Gardiner, told an il-
lustrated story of two fish families,
the Sluggards and the Hustlers. She
also presented memory work cer-
tificates to Carrah Templeman for
Part II of the Beginners' Memory
Course, and Leanne Gardiner for
Part II of the Junior Course.
Rev. Kenneth Knight's sermon was
based on the scriptures, children,
obey your parents in the Lord, and
Honour thy father and thy mother. He
pointed out that not only do the
children have responsibilities but the
parents do also.
Two babies were baptized during
the service- Pamela Margaret,
daughter of Brian and Rhonda Miller,
and William Ian, son of Craig and
Peggy Kerslake.
Mr. Aunger and Mr. McAuley. The
winners in grade one and two were
first Laura Cook. "Life in Pond
Water", second, Theresa Wilhelm,
"My Carrots Growth", third Jeff
Sararas and Ben Van Bergen,
"Volcanoes". The grade twos made
their first communion May 11.
Grade three and four - Rochelle
Geoffrey received a first for her pro-
ject on Lefties and Righties, second
Sean McCann whose project was .on
"popcorn," and third Darren Kintz
who had a display on `Beavers". The
grade threes had their first confes-
sions on May 9. After a reconciliation
celebration they received a gift from
the Catholic Women's League and en-
joyed cookies sent by mothers.
Grade five and six - Science fair
winners first Peter Grysells, "Bat-
teries", second Erin Kraftcheck
"How we replace water in our
bodies", and third Jacob Petersen on
"Yeast and Fermentation". The
grade five and six class are doing a
TV unit. At the end of this unit they
will film a show.
Grade seven and eight - Science fair
winners were Michelle Birmingham,
first "Which Popcorn is the Best",
Chrissy O'Toole second "Amazing
Plants", ,Bryden Grysells third
"Browning of Fruit". The winners
from grade 3-8 will compete in Dublin
May 14. We wish them luck. Grade
seven and eights are preparing for
Confirmation. They are making stoles
May 13 with the help of some parents.
On May 16 they will go to the Pinedale
for a day of recollection with Father
