Plan
Church Centennial
The Centennial Committee of the
United Church met on Wednesday
evening to make final plans for the
upcoming Centennial event at the
church. On May 11th a tree will be
planted by the children of the con-
gregation as they celebrate the 100th
Anniversary. This will be Christian
Family Sunday and following the tree
planting service the children will
parade to the School ground where
they will release balloons with invita-
tions to the Centennial Celebrations.
June 4 will be the Old Fashioned
Garden Party and Variety Show
featuring Earl and Martha Heywood
as well as a number of local artists.
June 15 everyone is invited to renew
their marriage vows. Invitations are
being sent out to all those who were
married in the church or by ministers
of the church over the past 100 years.
June 17 the Bridal clothing over the
100 years will be shown through a
F'ashion Show and June 29 will be
Senior Citizens Sunday with Rev. Dr.
Allen Filshie, a former resident of
ifensall and one of the young men who
went out as a Candidate for the
'.linistry from the congregation. The
congregation will be assisting the
committee in the events planned.
Some of the ladies of the United
Church attended the London Con-
ference United Church Women's
meeting held in Stratford this past
week, and reported an excellent
meeting with outstanding speakers.
The United Church was filled on
Sunday morning for the regular mor-
ning Worship with Evelyn Elder
greeting the congregation and Darryl
Preszcator, Stephen McGregor, Rod
Parker and Steven Gerstenkorn
ushering.
During the service Krista Judith
Taylor, daughter of Marvin and Cin-
dy Taylor, was received through bap-
tism. Mr. McDonald explained
through the children's time that
Krista was now a new member of our
church family and that they, along
with the rest of the congregation
would be helping Krista to grow up in
the Christian way. Mr. McDonald
spoke on the subject of "The Family
Unit" and took as his background
scripture the Book of Ruth and par-
ticularly the life of Naomi.
"in the midst of our times of tension
and stress, the one significant, sane
unit that we have to cling to and keep
our perspective is the family," he
said.
He related Naomi to the grand-
parents, Ruth and Boaz to the
parents, and their 'children to our
children. He spoke 01 the responsibili-
ty we have to those we receive
through baptism and how the things
we do, the values we live by, greatly
influence those around us.
"A community," he said, "can
destroy young lives if it is basically
evil, or it can build up young lives if
it is essentially good."
The Junior Choir led in the ministry
of music and sang two anthems. They
opened the sePvvice with "We are the
Church", and following the baptism
sang "God is so Good", with Mrs.
Fuss at the piano.

power of man leads to spiritual
bankruptcy but faith in God will never
fail."
Ten members answered the roll
call with a sign of Easter or of spring.
Ten cents for each bed in the house
was collected for our special project.
