talks aboutJaon
For the first time in the history of
the Kirkton Woodham Winter Car-
nival, the guest speaker at the annual
banquet and the Snow Queen were the
same person.
At Wednesday's banquet Queen Jill
Burgin -told of her experiences during
a year's stay in Japan as part of a
Rotary Club exchange. Carnival
president Dave Williams said he had
made arrangements to have Jill talk
about her Japanese trip before she
was crowned Queen of the carnival.
During the business portion of the
meeting, treasurer George Levy
reported receipts from the 1986 event
were down considerably because of
weather conditions. Despite this a
total of $2,300 was distributed to
various Kirkton and area groups as
donations.
Williams said a storm during the
day of Friday of the carnival weekend
had held the dance and queen com-
petition attendance down and icy con-
ditions Sunday were responsible for
concellation of the scheduled ski
poker races.
As the result of her year's absence
from regular classes at St. Marys
District Collegiate, the carnival queen
is attending Stratford Central this
year where the semester system is
being used and she will be back in St.
