Open lines of
communication
Some parents worry about the dif-
ficulty of communicating with their
teenage children. There are some
reasons for potential tensions to arise.
The teenage years bring changes
just as parenting bring changes to an
adult's lifestyle. The teenager must
cope with becoming an adult. Parents
. must cope with their child becoming
more independent and possibly mov-
ing from home. They must learn to let
go even if they really want to hang on.
Parents must realize that com-
munication isn't always verbal. The
teenager who has little to contribute
to the conversation at the dinner table
or little to report about his evening
away from home may be com-
municating in other ways.
A mumbled phrase, a slammed
door, and an "I don't care" attitude
all relay'a message. So does a smile,
or an .errand done without being
asked. •
Parents must listen carefully,
"read between the lines" and also
watch what is happening. They sould
encourage reasoning and discussion
rather than setting down unexplain-
ed -or inflexible rules. It is important
for parents to realize that they don't
have all of the answers all of the time
and to involve their teenages in deci-
sions that affect them.

unreels' =everyone, no matter how
many unmanagable cowlicks we
have, er kw coarse or how fine is our
hair. les alio true, that having found
a hairdresser who can get control of
your hair, you stick to her like glue,
knowing your very lifestyle and hap-
piness is in her hands. A good doctor
may be of prime importance, but not
to be compared- to a hairdresser a
woman can trust!
So, why do we women have this all
consuming complex about our hair?
Who knows? It seems to me Paul may
have started it away back in Biblical
times when he commented that a
woman's hair was her glory... and
we've been trying to keep up that im-
age ever since.
