Clerk -treasurer Jack McLachlan
presented the financial report for 1965
at Tuesday's meeting d Tuckersmith
council which showed that the
township ended the year with a
surplus of 115,000 and that the 1965 ex-
penditures amounted to 11,574,944.
Leen Rehorst end Doug Coventry,
representing the board of the Clinton
Public Hospital, requested council to
consider a grant 01 12,750 over a two-
year period to assist with the new
obstetrical facility to be built at the
hospital at an estimated cost of
$950,000. Coventry said the ministry•
of health, which has approved the
construction, will make a grant of
$400,000 and the County of Huron is to
be asked for a donation of $150,000. He
said the remaining $400,000 must be
raised locally.
Council was told that during 1985
the hospital served 1,345 patients, of
which 10 percent had been residents
of Tuckersmith Township.
The council will consider the grant
and make a decision at a later
meeting, in the meantime it approv-
ed donating $1,500.
Other grants the township makes
annually were approved: Huron
County Federaton of Agriculture, $700
and the Seaforth Agricultural Socie-
ty, $200 with Deputy Reeve Robert
Broadfoot declaring a conflict of in-
terest and refraining from any discus-
sion on the two grants.
Other grants approved were:
Seaforth Lions club, $200; Huron
County Plowmans Association, $50;
Clinton Recreation Board,.$500; Town
and Country Homemakers, 1500; and
Farm Safety Association, 150.
Other grants approved were: Hen-
sall South Huron Agricultural Socie-
ty, $200 and the Huron Central
Agricultural Society, $200; to the
Seaforth Community Hospital, $3 per.
patient for each one from
Tuckersmith Township; to the Hen-
sall Calf Club and the Huron County
4-H members, $4 per member; dona-
tion to Blyth Festival of the Arts and
the Huron Country Playhouse, 125
each; a donation of $1;000 to the
VanEgmond House. All the grants
and donations are subject to the final
review of the 1986 budget.
The Township of Tuckersmith join-
ed the Huron County Municipal Of-
ficers Association at the annual fee of
125.
