ROBERT LAING . The W.M.S. of Cromarty Church sponsored a pot luck dinner on Good Friday for all the ladies of the con- gregation. Foliowing the meal, Mrs. Charles Douglas presided for the Easter meeting of the W.M.S., using the service from the Glad Tidings en- titled Three Gifts of Easter. Mrs. Mervin Dow, Mrs. Mac Lamond, Mrs. Jim Miller, asssisted Mrs. Douglas. During the business, Mrs. Miller displayed the in Memoriam plaque that will be placed in the basement in memory of the late Mrs. Calder 147#4.14....)4o • wasa.a very faithful member of the Women's Missionary Society. LariJo Gardiner and Heather Pat- terson played a piano duet, Rain on the Roof, and Leanne Gardiner and .Beth Patterson teamed up to play Steamboat around the Bend on the piano. An Easter filmstrip, The Water, was shown by Mrs. Tom Scott and Mrs. Ben Stoneman. Mrs. Douglas thanked all who•had helped with the meeting which closed with the Lord's Prayer in unison. Visitors It was surprising on Tuesday of last week to see somewhere in the neighbourhood of 125-150 migrating 'swans, geese and ducks swimming on the pond in Mervin Dow's field, half a mile west of Cromarty. Most of them took off early Wednesday mor- ning, but by evening there were again about 50 scattered over the pond and ploughed field. Although it isn't unusual to see them there each spring, this was a much larger number than usual. Perth -Huron Presbytery ministers and representative elders met in Cromarty Presbyterian Church on Wednesday with the Ladies Aid cater- ing for the noon meal. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laing and Tom, and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Laing attended a Jefferson family reunion in Fullarton Hall, Good Friday. Gordon, Eva and Ru1,h:japjng,.ac-, companied by Norman Jefferson of Munro, were recent guests at the Donald Jefferson home in Clinton• where an "At Home" was held to celebrate the 85th birthday of an aunt, Mrs. Charles Jefferson. Cromarty congregation joined with Hibbert United for the annual Good Friday evening service in Staffa. The service was in charge of Ernest Dow, with Rev. K. Knight preaching the sermon, It Is Finished. A joint ladies chorus sang "Why?" with Mrs. Elmer Dow at the piano. Mary Elliott, Muriel Scott, Agnes Lamond and Ruth Laing attended tho annual meeting of Stratford -Huron Presbyterial of the W.M.S. in St. An- drew's Church, Stratford, Monday. Rev. Kenneth Knight and the choir entered Cromarty church on Easter Sunday singing the first two verses of The Old Rugged Cross. The last two stanzas were sung at the conclusion of the service. Mr. Knight spoke on the theme, The Prince of Life, and the choir sang Blessed Redeemer with Mrs. Ivan Norris at the organ. BREAKING EGGS — Cecil Pepper was one of the willing vo unteers kept busy in the kitchen of Hensall United Church cooking breakfast for the more than 100 people who attended the Easter sunrise service. Town Topics Euchre party The Three Links Seniors held a very successful euchre party on Tues- day evening March 25 with 10 tables in play. Winners were Pink card high - Nellie Riley, white card high - Bet- 1 ty Grenier, Pink card low - Margaret': Cole, white card low Mr. Henry and lone hands - Annie Finkbeiner, Several draws for door prizes were made with winners being Irene Finlayson, Gladys Coleman, Alice Ferg, Pearl McKnight, Mrs. Bob McGregor, Hilda Payne, Mary Broadfoot and Evelyn Workman. Another party is planned for Tues- day evening April 22. Everyone welcome. Northcrest news Gwen and Wayne Lashley of Ot- tawa visited with grandmother Hazel Luther for the weekend. Lois and Clarence Ducharme from Kitchener visited with her father Joe McLellan and mother of Qeensway on Easter Sunday. Idea Dickert is spending a few days in Toronto with her granddaughter Robin McLellan. Visitors with Glen and Pearl McKnight over the Easter holidays Were son Jack and wife Raye of Ot- tawa. Mary and Don Gravett and family of Hanover visited on Sunday. Mrs. Mabel Shirray spent the weekend with son Doug and wife Karen and family in Tavistock. Personals Rev. The front .of the church looked like a garden with the many beautiful Easter lilies and daffodials as well as special memorial flowers placed in loving memory of Jean Rowcliffe and by the Hensall Horticultural Society. Claire Hoffman greeted the con- gregation and the Junior and Senior choirs led in the minisitry of music. The junior choir, under the direction of Mr. McDonald sang "Children, Join the Celebration" with arrange- ment by Carol McMillen and "The Easter Song" by Otis Skillings with the boys' chorus consisting of Jonathon Corbett, Shane Pepper, Chris Smith and Shawn Wurm taking the solo part. The girls chorus con- sisting of Mindy Bell, Tara Pepper, Angela Gould, Cathy Corbett, Vic- toria Bisback, Daniele Lambert and Lauri Gould took the second part. The whole choir joined in praise that "Jesus Christ rose from the grave that day, Jesus Christ took my sins away". The Senior choir, directed by Belva Fuss sang, "Christ, The Lord is Risen Today" by James Denten quoting the Easter Hymn from "Lyra Davidica" as well as "He Lives" by Rev. A.H. Ackly. Mr. McDonald spoke on the subject of "I Saw the Risen Christ and It wasn't Even Easter". He spoke of how the Risen Christ speaks to us through many situations and people, and that He Will keep revealing himself through us as he cleanses and renews our hearts. The congregation were reminded that the annual beef barbecue will be held on Wednesday, April 9 and a Baptismal Service will be held on Sunday, April 20. Sunrise service Sunrise service at 7:00 a.m. at the United Church saw more than 120 people awakened to the cries of 'Christ is Risen", "The Tomb is Emp- ty" as the young people of the con- gregation presented a drama -worship re-enacting the first Easter morning. Playing the part of Mary was Diane Stebbins, and the other woman who went to the tomb with her to annoint their Lord was played by Pam Gacksetter. Playing the part of Peter was Bevan Moir and John was played by Wayne Scotchmer. The leaders for the service were Elizabeth Thompson and Tim Brock who read the scrip- tures and led in prayer. Joyce Pepper was the pianist for the service and Mr. McDonald closed the service with a solo -benediction "For God So Lov- ed the World". Following the service, and as part of the drama, the young people in- vited everyone to follow them to the Fellowship Hall where a delicious - Easter breakfast was served by the Worship Committee under the chair- manship of Lloyd Ferguson. The breakfast consisting of orange juice, bacon and eggs, hash brown potatoes, Queensway news Welcome to the month of showers! It's nice to see the grass again and the early flowers peeking out in our flower beds. Most of us here at Queensway are experiencing spring fever. We are very anxious to get out of doors and many of us are getting out thanks to our lovely weather lately. The Hensall United Church ladies ran bingo for us on Monday, March 24. Everyone had a very good time and we all shared tea and cookies following the bingo. On Tuesday mcrning our Ceramics club met. Lil Baker and Judy Parker were here to give their expert instruc- tion. Rev. Kenneth Knight perform- ed our church service on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Edith Bell was our volunteer pianist. On Wednesday afternoon our resi- dent's council met to discuss this month's happenings and various issues. It was a very good meeting with lots of discussion. On Thursday afternoon a group of rest home and nursing home residents enjoyed five pin bowling at Town and Country Bowling Lanes in Zurich. Muriel Gunning bowled the ladies' high score and Lloyd McDougall bowled the mens high score for this month. Thursday evening the Hensall Beavers and Cubs visited Queensway to deliver Easter baskets filled with delicious treats. They also entertain- ed us with a few songs. Thank you very much boys! Later Thursday evening several of our residents enjoyed our movie presentation entitled, Flying Deuces featuring Laurel and Hardy. We laughed all the way through it. Maundy Thursday A very impressive Maundy Thurs- day service was held in the United Church on Thursday evening wtyen the picture of the Last Supper was re- created live for the congregation with the theme for the service, "Lord, Is It I". The disciples around the Lord's Table were represented by Hans Gerstenkorn as Bartholomew; Bill Stebbins as James The Younger; David Brock as Andrew; Tim O'Brien as Judas; Chuck Mallette as Peter; Cecil Pepper as John; Murray McGregor as Thomas; Steven Cor- bett as James; Don Stebbins as Phillip; Stephen McGregor as Mat- thew; Mervyn Fields as Thaddaeus and Bill Fuss as Simon. Rev. McDonald conducted the ser- vice assisted by the choir who sang the very beautiful "0 Come and Mourn a While With Me" by John Bacchus Dykes and for the basis of the drama part of the service "Lord, Is It I". For the communion Service the congregation came forward and shared at the Lord's Table. Sharon Wurm greeted the excellent attendance for the service and Fred Elder, Mark McGregor, Michael McGregor and Murray Wareing were the ushers. Carmel Presbyterian Carmel Presbyterian Church celebrated their Easter Sunday ser- vice at 11:30 a.m. March 30. Carolyn Love was at the organ. The choir range "Christ Arose". Rev. Kenneth Knight's sermon was based on "The Prince of Life". Presbyterian Church Women Th P.C.W. met in Seaforth on Mon- day March 24 for a noon luncheon, then met at the home of president Margaret Hoggarth for worship and business. Margaret Hoggarth was in charge of the Easter message worship. Ladies are reminded of the April meeting on Monday April 7 at 8 p.m., in the church basement. Roll call is to be answered by a "Spring Clean- ing Hint". The annual Daffodil Tea and Bake Sale will be held April 12 at 2 p.m. in the church basement. Everyone welcome. Shuffleboard A good number attended shuf- fleboard on Thursday March 27. We hope to have two more courts in the near future. Farewell party for Kippen area farmers By Margaret Hoggarth Personals A farewell party was held at Mona and Vern Alderdice's on Saturday, March 29, for Alan and Wilson Tremeer. Alan and Wilson have been in the community all of their lives and have decided to retire to Seaforth. Neighbours who had known them for many years gathered to wish them a happy retirement. Kippen United Church Rev. Lorne Keays igesided in the pulpit on Easter Sunday, March 30 in St. Andrew's, Kippen. His sermon was entitled "The difference Easter makes in a Good Friday world". He expounded by likening life to the spans of a bridge when its supports are hidden in fog. But there is Easter and it can make a big difference to a Good Friday world. Mary Moffat played the organ, and the ministry of music was provided by the choir singing "Glory in the Highest". Kippen U.C.W. members are in- vited to the Egmondville U.C.W.
