Safety group
elects officers
At a recent meeting of the Huron
County Farm and Home Safety
Association, directors decided to
sponsor a Power Take Off Clinic. This
Clinic will be held in conjunction with
the farm machinery dealers in Huron
County and will be held on one day -
April 1- only.
On this day farmers may take their
power take off shafts to their dealer
to have them inspected and repaired.
The dealers are waiving the cost of
labour to replace broken or worn
parts on that day.
The farmer will be charged for
replacement parts only. The safety
related components for power take off
shafts pertain to such items•as nylon
bearings, tumbling shields, guards
and other items which might save a
limb, arm or life.
This should prove to be one of the
most worthwhile projects ever laun-
ched by the Huron County Farm and
Home Safety Association. Further
details about this Clinic are available
by contacting John Underwood, presi-
dent, at 335-6277.
Over the past 10 years there have
been 458 deaths in Ontatio according
to information compiled by the Farm
Safety Association Incorporated,
Guelph, Ontario. Huron County has
the third highest number of deaths in
Ontario with Grey and Wellington
Counties exceeding the 25 deaths by
only one higher in each area. During
1984, seven deaths were reported in
Huron County. This was higher by
double than any preceeding year
since 1975.
Officers for 1986 are Past President -
Robert Stirling; President- John
Underwood; Vice -President- Hugh
Flynn; Secretary- Don Young;
Treasurer- Ron Gross.
A safety poster contest for students
of Huron County schools will again be
conducted during the month of April.
This year there will be four
categories. Three prizes will be allot-
ted in each category with prize money
ranging from $15 to $4.
Participants may enter the contest
through their school or on their own
initiative. They should contact the
principal of their school for full rules
and regulations. All entries must be
in the hands of the secretary by April
30.
As well, the Directors decided to
again offer a similar type contest
through the Agricultural Societies to
be held in conjunction with their fair.
Details of this contest are available
by contacting the secretary of your
local fair board.
The next meeting will be held at
Clinton public school, Thursday,
March 20 at 8:15 p.m.

A study program leading to the
Master of Agribusiness Marange-
ment defree. will be offered at the
University of Guelph, beginning in
September, 1906. The new program is
designed to prepare students to func-

Farmers and those employed in
agriculturally related businesses, in-
cluding marketing boards, are all in- .
eluded among those for whom the
program is intended, adds Funk. It
should be of particular benefit for
those at lower management levels
who wish to improve'their chances of
advancement, he adds.
The new program will be able to ac-
cept about 20 students a year, says
