The fifth Sunday in Lent Church
was in charge of the minister Rev.
Robert Matheson. The responsive
reading was taken from Psalm 28 and
the minister told the children's story
"Some things are best forgotten".
The Scripture Lesson was read
from Isiah 43; 16-21, Philippians
3:8-14, John 8:1-11. The sermon was
entitled No immunity, but yes,
impunity.
Jesus, in meeting the woman
caught in adultery was challenged by
those who thought the Law is the on-
ly way into the Kingdom. These peo-
ple were much like those Paul ad-
dressed in his letter to the Philippians
- who felt religious ritual was the door
to the Kingdom.
Jesus amazes his audience by
reminding us not one of us escapes.
Yet we will not be punished by God if
we repent and expand energy trying
to follow Jesus' lead.
