Honour courier
at Clandeboye
Patrons of RR 2 Lucan (formerly
RR1 Clandeboye) gathered Tuesday
evening, at St. James Church,
Clandeboye to honor their retired
mail courier, Arnold Blake, for his 42
years of service.
Euchre and crokinole was played
followed by readings "Ode to the
Rural Mailman" and excerpts read
by Clarence and Barbara Carter from
their scrap books, which drew gales
of laughter.
A fun gift was presented first to Ar-
nold containing a dish cloth, detergent
and tea towel, suggesting he would
have plenty of time now to help with
dishes. A lovely plant was presented
to Lucille.
A beautiful wall clock, plus a gift of
money was also presented to Arnold
and a thank you speech was made in
return.
A bountiful lunch was served and
everyone enjoyed the neighbourly
get-together. Prize winners for the
games played were, Frieda Rollings,
Jack Gilmour, Olive Simpson and Ed
Armstrong.
St. James Church was broken into
sometime early last week, by break-
ing a window in the basement, behind
the furnace. The cupboard doors were
all left open but nothing was missing
and they, at least, had the decency not
to vandalize. Lucan OPP
investigated.

Mrs. Pete Groenewegen was
hostess for the March meeting of the
Clandeboye Women's Institute. In the
absence of President Elsie Lewis,

correspondence.

to pollution" was answered by nine
members and one visitor.
Mrs. Groenewegen, convener of
Agriculture and Canadian Industries,
introduced the guest speaker, Nancy
Roelands of Parkhill, who spoke on
her trip last summer to Prince Ed-
ward Island as an exchange member
of the Junior Farmers.
She gave a very interesting talk
showing the different places on a map
where she visited, while staying with
a family on a small farm. She show-
ed pictures in a photo album and a
large book on Canada which includ-
ed beautiful coloured pictures of
Prince Edward Island. Lunch was
served and a social time was spent
together.

quickly; childhood chews hours and
