At men's club
Ag Minister speaks in Dashwood

Dashwood Men's Club held their
dinner meeting at Dashwood com-
munity centre Monday evening with
30 members and 20 guests present. A
lovely pork dinner was served.
Guest speaker was the Honourable
Jack Riddell, Minister of Agriculture
and Food, who spoke on free trade
and some possible implications.
The next meeting will be held
March 24 with father and child guests.

It was a pleasure for the
Tweedsmuir History committee of
Riverview Women's Institute to
display its books at the south lounge
of the Craigwiel Apartments on
Wednesday afternoon.
Many seniors of the Apartments
and Institute members as well as
District Curator, Mrs. Arnold (Marg)
Harris, of South Lobo Institute brows-
ed through the pictures of yester-
years, gala days snaps with captions,
stories of the local businesses, chur-
ches and items of the village, noted
people, the local Institute branch as
well as farm histories.
How one reminisces when people
get-together - and so it was when look -
in at the 1973-1985 current events!

ing a pleasant time to a close. .
Baptisms
During the United Church morning
service on Sunday, Rev. Anne Beat-
tie received Kelly Lynn Twynstra,
daughter of Ed and Diane Twynstra,
into the family of God through bap-
tism, before an over flow crowd.
The Lynn and Twynstra families
were present as well as the guest
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Zellmaker, of SI;rathroy for the
special occasions.
As this was Guide -Scout week, the
groups assembled at the front of the
church. The offering was received by
four of the group.
For all ages, the minister led in
several action songs which included
"He's got the whole world in his
hands".
The first Bible lesson was read by
Tracy Cocksworth followed by Colin
McLachlan reading from John after
which Rev. Beattie (by memory) told
a story about "legs".
Special music by the Sonshine
Singers (of Beechwood) was much
enjoyed.
Before leaving, all groups repeated
their promises to renew them today
before you and before each other as
a pledge .of our faithfulness to the
ideals given us by Lord and Lady

Vernon Schatz is a patient in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter, recovering
from pneumonia.
Mrs. Grace Beavis passed away
Saturday, March 1 following a lengthy
illness. The funeral was held Monday
at Bethlehem Lutheran church Far-
mington, Michigan. Relativesatten-
ding the funeral were Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Hayter, Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Hayter, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Bruce, Mr.
and Mrs. Jim Hayter, Goderich; and
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Vandahl,
Montreal.
The V.L. Becker family held a
family gathering Sunday at
Dashwood Community Centre in
honour of Mrs. Verna Becker's 75th
birthday. A lovely dinner was served
at 5 p.m. with 65 present. Quite a
number were unable to attend. Others
having birthdays near the date were
Elaine Datars, Mary Becker and
Valentine Becker. Mrs. Becker
received lovely flowers and a gold
watch. They plan to make the gather-
ing an annual affair.
Judy and Patricia Simpson, Lon-
don, and John Mason, Rainy. River,
were guests with Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
Mason on the weekend.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Rader, Glen,
Marilyn, Heather and Allan Rader,
Mr. and Mrs. Elson Lynn and fami-
ly, Bill and Ginger Webb and family
attended the baptism of Jeffery Justin
Lynn at which Heather was sponsor
at Centralia United Church. They
were all guests with Jim and Darlene
Lynn, Chris and Shawn.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Da tars
returned home following a lovely
vacation spent at Fort Myers,
Florida.

Church hymn books

The United Church Women met a
the church, Wednesday. Members

At noon Mrs. Marion Skinner and
Mrs. Jake Hovius served lunch.
The study for the United Church
Women is the Native Indian and -they
served items that probably might
have been served by them at one
time. Some of the items were corn
chowder, chicken noodle soup with
meat balls, honey, apple butter,
strawberry jam and a variety of
muffins.
Quilting continued after lunch while
president Mrs. Floyd Cooper con-
ducted the business. The roll call was
answered by "Naming a Canadian In-
dian tribe or reserve".
The Huron Perth Presbyterial An-
nual meeting report was given. Mrs.
Ina Skinner reported for the morning
and Mrs. Cooper read Mrs. John Bat-
ten's report for the afternoon. Mrs.
Marion Skinner reported on the
Huron Perth Presbyterial executive
meeting held in Clinton.
Mrs. Don Kerslake offered to make
a poster for the United Church
Women of London Conference •annual
meeting to be held in Stratfyird on
April 14 and 15.
It was decided to cater to a banquet
at Kirkton-Woodham Community in
October. Members were asked to
bring in old nylons and pantyhose to
be taken back to the Bluewater Rest
Home. They were also asked to bring
good used clothing to take to "Bless-
ings" in Zurich.
The World Day of Prayer will be
held at the Pentescostal church in Ex-
eter March 7 at 2 p.m.
Each member received a calendar
for the month of March. It contains
some special comments and many of
us will be paying fines. We are asked
to return any money we may end up
paying to the United Church Women
meeting in April.
t Everyone then had a break from
quilting while Mrs. Howard Pym in -
1 troduced us to the new study for the
. next two years. She had a couple of
maps showing the Indian Reserves
and also naming the tribes of Canada.
Mrs. Pym read an article written
by Rev. Ken Mcl�ay. She also show-
ed a film strip entitled "As we see it"
narrated by Rev. McKay. In closing
we formed a circle and joined hands
and she read a prayer.
The women continue to quilt this
week at the church.

Play euchre
at Mt. Carmel
Euchre with 14 tables in play was
enjoyed Sunday night at Our Lady of
Mount Carmel.
Winners were men's high and low,
Anthony Martene and Ed Armstrong;
ladies high and low, Mary Moser and
Margaret Carter; lone hands,
Philomene Hogan.
A delicious lunch was served prior
to saying good night.

entertained at their home recently in
honour of their aunt, Mrs. Marie
Green's 80th birthday. Those atten-

The Third Sunday In Lent Church
service was in charge of Rev. Robert
Matheson. We sang the children's
hymn "What A Friend We Have In
Jesus". The minister told the
children's story "I am who I am".
Rev. Robert Matheson read the
passages of Scripture from Exodus
3:1-15, Corinthians 10:1-13, Luke
13:1-9. The sermon was entitled "A
Call Takes Shape".
