Exeter manager Ed Rodenberg says the same services will be available at Ailsa Craig as at the Ex- eter location. Under the direction of manager Bill Windsor, the Ailsa Craig operation will soon include a fertilizer blender. In addition to the regular store lines, fertilizer is in storage and bagg- ed feed and lumber is available. Petroleum is being supplied from the Exeter terminal. Rodenberg says one of the highlights for this coming crop season is the addition of Co -Op Green Plan II. This is a computerized program for crop management, corn, forages, cereal grains, beans. The plan begins with soil analysis and the development of a complete cropping program that takes all crop inputs into account. All the variables of each individual farmer's plan, plus records of its progress and results are handled and stored by the Co -Op com- puter. These records will provide each farmer with accurate perfor- mance evaluations, both during the growing season and after harvest. The plan calculates total fertility needs, based on the demands of yield goals and existing nutrients in the field. A fertilizer program is then developed that weighs all factors and manure applications and legume plowdown are considered. Additional pre -plant fertilizer or supplemental nitrogen are selected, if required. The choice of the starter fertilizer will also take the possible need for micro and secondary nutrients into account. The plan records the placement and time of fertilizer application along with all other factors. Rodenberg says the new plan "allows us to give more precise fer- tilizer recommendations and also do our invoicing and formulating at the fertilizer plant. This is something we couldn't even dream about five years ago." The local manager said 1985 was a profitable year for the Co -Op and 1986 appears to be right on target for con- tinuation of a favourable financial picture. He added, "There is no doubt farm incomes are down. We are fortunate in the Exeter area to have a lot of good quality and well established farmers. They know what they are doing." The Co -Op lumber business in Ex- eter has doubled in the past two years. On this subject Rodenberg com- mented, "There is a positive outlook for residential building this year. It looks like a strong housing market as long as interest rates don't go any higher. Prospects for new farm buildings are non-existent at the moment."
