many of them made up of local fans
who had seen or heard about the high
calibre of play in Tuesday's contest,
the teams ended regulation time in a
3-3 tie.
Fans got a 50 percent bonus for
their admission as it was almost mid-
way through the second 20 -minute
sudden -death overtime period when
the Golden Hawks sent Western to the
sidelines with the winning tally.
The game was a fast -paced, hard-
hitting affair and the crowd was one
of the largest ever to attend a "home"
contest of the Mustangs.
Laurier supporters out -numbered
and out -shouted UWO supporters and
the "Go, Hawks, Go" that echoed
around the rec centre was a familiar
one for area fans who appeared to en-
joy most of the cheering support'pro-
vided by the winner's supporters.
The game was broadcast over the
University's FM radio station.
There was one local connection with
the game. UWO captain Chris
McCauley is a native of Exeter and on
hand to cheer for the former member
of the London Knights and OUAA
first -team defensive all-star was his
father, Ter'ty, now a resident of
Alliston and former resources
manager of the Ausable Conservation
Authority.
Netminder for the winning Laurier
squad was Mike Moffat, formerly of
the Kingston Canadiens and a team
mate of Perry and Paul Pooley. Mof-
fat played several games with the
Boston Bruins before returning to
university.
In taking the 'A' crown, Clinton
defeated Exeter 2-1 and J Aar Con-
struction 34 before edging the
,Goderich Old Deck Hands 2-1 in the
final.

Ahrens on a pass from Jack
