Mt. Brydges Monday's those
back to haunt them as the Bulldogs
threw up a strong defensive net in the
final frame to hang on to a 2-1 win.
The victory gave the Bulldogs a 2-1
lead in their best -of -seven southern
division semi-finals against the Irish
and also gave them home Ice advan-
tage in the series.
Lucan, easy winners of the southern
division championship, won the first
game of the set on Wednesday with a
4-1 triumph, but were bombed 12-1 in
Mt. Brydges on Saturday.

Brydges for game four tonight
(Wednesday) and the fifth game is in
Lucan on Friday at 8:15. The sixth
game is slated to go back to Mt.
Brydges on Sunday and the seventh,
if necessary, is in Lucan on Tuesday.
In Monday's game, the Bulldogs
took an early lead with a powerplay
goal at the 14:51 mark of the first,
although the Irish dominated play.
Lucan finally hit the mark near the
midway mark of the second as Wayne
Urbshott finished off a play with Dean
Doerr.
However, the Bulldogs came back
in the final minutes of the middle
stanza to take what turned out to be
the final lead in the game.
In the third, the Bulldogs worked
tenaciously on defence and allowed
'Lucan only seven shots on net, while
they took four themselves.
The Irish powerplay was impotent
as the Bulldogs sat out 13 of the 22
minor penalties called in the contest.
Darcy Shaw ended the game with
only 15 saves, while Graham McLean
recorded 32 for the visitors.
GETS TWO AWARDS
Lucan minor hockey product Les
Arts was the recipient of two awards
at the South Western Junior "B"
league banquet in Sarnia last week.
Arts was named most valuable
defenceman in the league and was
also honored for having been selected
to the league's first all-star squad.
Arts is a member of the Strathroy
Blades.

The hosts scored PowerPlitY
goals and added one short-handed as
the Irish served 55 minutes in
penalties and lost Paul Barnes and
Brad Muir with fighting majors in the
middle frame.
At one point In the game, Ulcan had
four players in the penalty box and
two men short for almost 10 minutes
during one stretch. The game took
three hours to play with the copstant
parade to the penalty _ box. The
Bulldogs served 49 minutes in
penalties including one major and the
subsequent game misconduct.
With their powerplay working ef-
fectively, the Mt. Brydges crew took
a 3-1 lead in the first. Two of those
goals came with a man advantage,
while the lone Lucan goal was also a
powerplay effort as Barnes hit the
mark on a play with Grant Larsen.
The Bulldogs added six unanswered
tallies in the middle frame and then
coasted to the win with three more in
the final stanza.
Stout defence
In the series opener in Lucan,
Wednesday, the Irish played a strong
defensive game as they skated to a 4-1
triumph.
Mt. Brydges managed only 16 shots
on net and there was just under three
minutes left in the contest when they
spoiled Darcy Shaw's attempt at a
shutout.
The home crew hit the scoresheet
at the 11:10 mark of the first when
Jesse Crawford finished off a three-
way .play with Bob Thirlwall and
Wayne Urbshott while they enjoyed a
man advantage.
Lucan rattled in two quick ones to
open the second and added another in
the final minute of the same stanza to
complete their scoring.
Grant Larsen triggered the first on
a play with Ian Craig and Barnes,
while Craig notched the third goal of
the night with Barnes and Larsen
assisting.

is scheduled
The 1986 version of the Lake Huron
Zone of the Ontario Municipal
Recreation Association annual train-
ing conference is shaping up well,
with training session topics identified
and presently being planned. Your
community recreation board's oppor-
tunity for a day of excellent profes-
sional development and training is be-
ing centrally hosted in the town of
Hanover, through its Recreation,
Parks and Community Centres'
Board, April 5.
The John Diefenbaker Secondary
School will provide the facilities for
a day of learning, sharing and gain-
ing valuable information for the
benefit of all Boards and Com-
munities. In addition to the many ex-
cellent training sessions and resource
personnel to be available those atten-
ding will also be able to interact with
over 8 other conference delegates,
sharing common concerns and
information.
Training session topics will include
grants and financial resources; the
role of new board members; fundrais
ing and scrounging; aging plants and
reserve funds; rural recreation
without fulltime staff; liability in-
surance effects on recreation,and pot
pourri where anyone can ask and
share on any topic desired.
Registration for the Conference will
be minimal, at just $15.00 per person
for 0.M.R.A. members and $20.00 for
non-members, . with lunch and
resource materials included in the
fee. The registration deadline for all
delegates is , March 29, following
which a late fee will be instituted.

three wins
On Sunday, February 9, Huron
Park played Goderich and won with
a score of 5 -3. -Goals going to Corina
Price- three, Patty Bowerman- one
and Kathy Gage- one.
On Wednesday, February 12, Huron
Park defeated Goderich once again
with a score of 7-4.Goals were scored
by Corina Price- three, Kathy Gage
two, Shawna Becker- one, and Patty
Bowerman- one. Corina Price and
Kathy Gage both played two excellent
games with help from their forwards.
On Friday, February 14, Huron
Park won their last game against
Seaforth with a score of 8-7. Goals go-
ing to Jeanette Kaak- three, Corina
