If Exeter council member Dorothy
Chapman had her way; every job ap-

record whether applicants had ex-

"That tells something about the

local youu, groups were marking
Thinking Day and Founder's Day.
This year, the Scout and Guide
groups decided to have their own
church service on the actual day of
the celebration, rather than march to
one of the local churches on the
following Sunday as had been the
previous custom.
Mrs. Chapman was on hand to
outline the reason for celebrating the
events, noting that both were in honor
of the founders, Lord and Lady
Baden-Powell.
She explained that Scouts and
Guides around the world have the
same promises dealing with God,
Queen and country and the will-
ingness to help others and obey the
law.
While those laws and promises
were outlined by the founders some
75 years ago, they are still popular to-
day, and call on young people to be
honest, truthful, loyal, friendly and
helpful. ,
She concluded by noting the
organizations teach young people how
to be self reliant, to plan ahead and
to reach out to others.
Rev. Richard Hawley also had a
message for the young people, their
feeders and parents•at the Saturday
evening session. He- noted that
Scouting and Guiding are based on
Christian principles ani the young
people should remind'themselves
they are lovable and capable and so
are others around them.
Peter Snell accompanied the music
portion of the program, which includ-
ed songs by some of the groups and
a skit on the Lord's prayer presented
by the Boy Scouts.
