'nee Exeter Hawks finished off their
current season, Friday, and it had a
strong resemblance to their first
outing in a dismal year.
In the first game of the season, the
Hawks allowed Lucan Irish eight
unanswered goals in the first period
as they dropped a 13-0 verdict.
Friday night, against those same
Irish, the Hawks again suffered
through one bad period and ended up
on the short end of a 10-3 verdict.
However, this time it was the third
period that spelled disaster for the
locals as they ended the secogd with
a 3-3 tie against the southern division
champions.
"We played two super, riods,"
commented assistant each Ron
Bogart in his summation of the con-
test, noting the Hawks lost their cool
and concentration after a skirmish in
the third that enabled Lucan to "blow
us away"
The Irish led 3-1 after the first, but
the Hawks played one of their best

the Exeter and district men's rec

ween the pipes and recorded 55 saves,
while Doug Haskett had 33 for the
Irish.
Tie Bulldogs
On Thursday night, the Hawks
hosted Mt. Brydges and came up with
a spoiler role as they skated to a 7-7
tie. That kept the Bulldogs from mov-
ing into second place in the southern
division and sends them against
Lucan in the playoffs.
After spotting the visitors a 2-1 first
period lead, the Hawks came back to
take a 7-4 lead by the midway mark
of the third and appeared headed for
their second win in three starts.
However, the Bulldogs pulled to
within two at the 10:58 mark, added
another on a powerplay at the 18:27
mark and then notched the equalizer
in the final minute.
The tie almost escaped for the
Hawks at Mt. Brydges had a point-
blank shot with only nine seconds left,
but VanHaarlem came up with a
stellar save.
Steve McIntyre and Scott Brintnell
scored twice for the Hawks with
singles going to Scott Bogart, Steve
Gould and Dave Skea.
Defenceman Jeff Pfaff earned four
assists, Brintnell had a pair and
singles were recorded by Skea,
Bogart, Gould, Pratt, Jim Lewis and
Terry Zachar.
Final wrap-up
"With the nucleus we have, and if
we can pick up some defensive help,
I think the Hawks will come back next
year and be competitive," Bogart
said in commenting ori the season in
general.
"I think there will be some renew-
ed enthusiasm next year," he con-
tinued, adding his plea that local fans
attend the annual meeting on March
26 with their support and ideas.
"Exeter needs the Junior Hawks
and it's up to us to make sure they
stay in Exeter," he said in thanking
the fans for their support this season.
