Mrs. Doreen McRobert presid- ed and opened the meeting with scrip- ture and prayer. Roll call was anwsered by a reading pertaining to. "Love" or "Valentine Day" Mrs. Audrey Harloff and Miss Ed- na Wallis presented a very inspiring program with the theme "Love" in the form of a questionnaire dealing with the nativity scene. Mrs. Audrey Harloff and Mrs. Audrey Westman each brought a beautifully decorated valentine box, one containing sand- wiches and the other donuts and tarts. Unit iii held their meeting a week early at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Garrett. There were 11 members and three guests present. Ruth Cook, president welcomed everyone to the —meeting then asked that amoment of _ silent prayer be observed honouring the astronauts who were tragically killed. Jackie Pierce opened their pro- gram based on "Love" with scripture and a poem. The meditation theme was "Be my Valentine" and en- couraged us to make every day a valentine day, and a few minutes were spent sharing special Valentine .1 cards received in the past. Roll call is to be answered by "how do you postpone old age?" Speaker will be Trevor Wilson, a pharmacist from Exeter. Personals On Thursday, February 6, Rena Caldwell, Frances Kinsman, Margaret Hoggarth, Mona Alderdice and her granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Alderdice surprised a former Kippen resident, Grace Drummond (now of Exeter), on the occasion of her birthday. Vern and Mona Alderdice and daughter Lynn Alderdice hosted a dinner party on Saturday, February 8 for several friends and neighbours. After a delicious turkey supper, cards were enjoyed with 2 tables of 6 in progression. Men's high was won by Jack Caldwell, with Garry Alderdice cap- turing second prize. Emerson Col- eman received the men's low. Myra Lovell obtained the ladies' high, Audrey Coleman came second, with Rena Caldwell an Janice Alderdice tying for ladies' low. Myra Lovell received a prize for a February birthday. Kippen United Church Rev. Lorne Keays presided in the pulpit of St. Andrews on Sunday, February 9. His sermon was entitled "Now Speak". Ile expounded by say- ing "There are times in our lives when we should speak nut for what is right', and for what we believe in." Barbara Cooper accompanied the hymns on the organ. The evening ended with refreshments served by April and Margaret Bryan. Unit IV held their February meeting at the home of Mrs. Florence Riddell with seven members and one visitor present. Mrs. Gary Humphrey presided and opened the meeting with scripture and lesson thoughts. Roll call was a valentine verse. The members were remihded of the World Day of Prayer service to be held in St. Thomas Anglican Church on March 7. Mrs. Gerald Dann was responsbile for the program and gave a talk on useage and customs of native Indians of Ontario. Mrs. Floyd Dykes gave a reading of the rights and treaties of the natives and land claims which are before the courts now. Following benediction and grace lunch was served by Mrs. Humphrey and the hostess. Church news Morning prayer service was observed at St. ,Thomas Anglican Church with Rev. Peter Derrick in charge. The music was supplied by Mrs. Lois Herbert. The lessons were read by Muriel Lewistand the rector. Derrick described a very interesting story about Jesus' walk to Damascus by us- ing drawings on a board: "To believe in Jesus, we must follow Him". Peter Derrick in charge. Reports were read from the different organizations. Officers for 1986 were elected as follows: Rectors warden, Roy Moore; Peoples warden, Kenneth Hoar; Lay representative to synod, Mrs. Lois Herbert; lay substitute, Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins; vestry clerk, Mrs. Ethel Crouch: youth observer, Kenneth Beatson; board of management, The warden, lay representative and youth observer are automatically on.
