When such failure takes place if we are people who exclusively worship these modern deities where can we lean at times of disaster? Where do we go for that love Paul speaks of? Annual meeting After the worship service Sunday morning a delicious pot luck dinner was partaken of. After the dishes were finished Rev. Robert Matheson called the annual congregational meeting to order. Robert Bray was nominated as the chairman for the meeting and Mrs. Murray Dawson as secretary. Each different report was review- ed. It was also noted that the name of the late Alvin Passmore was omitted from the In Memoriam report. It was noted that two of the Board of Stewards are staying on for another three years, namely Robert Bray, Larry Dawson, the other four are Brian Miller, Don Richardson, Larry Ballantyne and Brad Cann. The Ses- sion members will be named later. Note: the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper Service has been changed from February 9 to the 23rd, just at Thames Road. SUMMERS At St. Thomas Anglican Church, the Rev. Peter Derrick was the celebrant for the Holy Eucharist assisted by Susan Kilpatrick as server and John Herbert as crucifer. The organist was Mrs. Joe French. The two lessons were read by Sylvia Beatson and Muriel Lewis. As a kindly gesture on behalf of the congregation; the rector presented a framed picture of the church to Mrs. Don Roloson who has finished her five years of service as rector's warden. Rev. Derrick preached his sermon from the 13th chapter of Corinth ians on the need of love as the unifying power, for it is love that allows the gifts of the people and the church sent from God to work together. Next Sunday the service will be at 8:45 a.m. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins, Lois and John Herbert, also Mrs. Stanley Crawford, attended the funeral of their aunt, the late Mrs. Ann (Hodgins) Davies. Widow of E.P. Hodgins (1963) and dear wife of Rev. Canon John Davies of Woodstock. The funeral service was held Friday at Old St. Paul's Anglican Church. 4-H News The second meeting of the Granton 4-H Club "The Courtesy Clique" was held at Prince Andrew school. Roll call was a short quiz which analized "How considerate are you?" We made a set of quick lines for get- ting along with your family and discussed the proper etiquette for speaking on the phone, We found out all about sending and receiving thank you notes and invitations, we also learned the right way to set a formal dinner table. The home assignment was to invite a guest to your home for a meal sometime between meetings two and six. We closed at nine with the 4-H motto and thanked our leaders, Diana Beatson and Mavis Harmsworth. Church News At the Granton United Church the Rev. Bruce Pierce was in charge of the Sunday morning Communion Ser- vice. The minister entitled his message "The Cunning Craftsman: God". We come to the communion table with our inconsistencies and we have let the tools slip through our hands rather than face the cause. In the children's story, the Rev. Pierce told them to love God and love their parents and that was the way to please God. The minister asked the children to turn around and face the congregation and give them a big smile. Flowers were placed in the church in memory of Carmen Dann, by his daughter Mrs. Verna Mills and family. SPENDING OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY TO ADVERTISE YOUR STORE OR SERVICE Co-op Is funds that manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers provide to promote their products within the framework of the store's advertis- ing program, with the manufacturer,. distributor or supplier paying either all or part of the cost of advertising. Co-op funds are available from many national manufacturers. They permit you to increase your advertising program at little or no extra cost to you. Advertising created by co-op dollars can provide you with more adver- tising slrace at a reduced cost. Using co-op on nationally advertised merchandise tells your customers that you are the national brand headquarters in your area, and intro- duces families that are new to the area to your store. By advertising national brand merchandise, you directly take advan- tage of the money that manufacturers spend on national advertising to promote their products. If an item has co-op built into its cost by the manufacturer, collecting it will earn you as much for your money as your competitors earn when they use co-op. CRC Productions of Clinton produc- ed the ATV and Snowmobile Sno- Cross races at the 1986 Kincardine Winterama this past weekend. The ATV's ran a short, supercross style ice track. This was the first OATVA sanctioned event for the 1986 racing season, and rider turnout was good. Snowmobiles ran a long snocross track, which had Ken Smith of Milton reaching 85 mph on the back straight. Bully, Gully Honda sponsored trophies for the top Sno-Cross Drivers for the weekend. Two drivers spon- sored by Holly Gully finished first and third for top points. Chuck Collins, Varna was first with 84 points; Rick Roesler, Plattsville was second at 52 and Burch Heroux, Whitby third at 47. Race action continues this weekend with Sno Drags, ATV and Snowmobile Drags, and an ATV Wheelie Contest. and Butch Heroux, Whitby third at 47. Failure is always a safe, familiar, no -risk refuge, a known experience; it focuses no new or testing respon- sibilities upon one. Success, on the other hand, is unknown territory and a high-risk business; the very life-style it im- poses is full of relentless demands for even better performances and achievements.
