New Blue Jays symbol for 10th
The defending American League Eastern Division champion
Toronto Blue Jays announced this week that a commemorative
10th anniversary logo has been created for the 1996 baseball season.
The new logo was designed by Savage Sloan Limited of Toron-
to, the same company that designed the club's original logo in 1976.
The commemorative logo will appear on all promotional items,
news releases, stationary and will be prominently displayed on the
left sleeve of the club's uniforms.
The logo features the number 10 representing the 10th anniver-
sary of the team. The Blue Jays crest, a stylized Blue Jay on a
red baseball outline incorporating a maple leaf is superimposed
on the zero. A white script indicating 10th anniverary '86 runs in
a navy blue banner across the bottom of the logo. It represents
four facets of the club's identity: The 10th anniversary, the 1986
season, baseball and the fact the club is Canadian.
The 10th anniversary season also celebrates the club's rise from
a mere expansion team to a defending division champion in only
nine short years of existence.
Since the Blue Jays first game against the Chicago White Sox
at Exhibition Stadium on April 7, 1977, a total of 153 players have
worn the Toronto uniform.
During the fist nine years, 14,636,025 fans have passed through
the turnstiles at Exhibition Stadium and a total of 26,954,068 have
enjoyed Blue Jays baseball across North America.
For any Blue Jays fans fortunate enough to spend some time in
Florida in the next month and a half we will pass along some in -
w
tormation regarding spring training games. The Jays will be play-
ing 27 games in the same number of days. Of these 13 are on their
home field at Dundedin, Florida.
Ticket prices for pre -season games at Grant Field are $5 for
reserved seats and $4 for grand stand seats. These are in United
States funds.
Although the first game is March 8 with the Minnesota Twins
supplying the ounosition, tickets are available at Grant Field begin -

Mohawks move back into first plate with big wins
The Exeter Mohawks moved back
to first place in the OHA intermediate
standings with a 6-5 victory over the
Tavistock Royals Monday night in
Tavistock.
The biggest game of the season
faces the Mohawks tonight, Wednes-
day, as they travel to Elora to face the
Rocks who are only one point back in
second spot. Saturday they complete
the regular schedule with a visit to the
Palmerston 81's.
Get Early Lead
In Tavistock Monday night, the
Mohawks flew into a 6-2 Lead after 40
minutes of play and were forced to
hang on as the Royals came on strong
and came within one goal of a tie with
a successful shot with only 36 seconds
to go on a power play.
Each team scored one goal in the
first period as Doug Latta registered
for the Mohawks on a three-way effort
with Brian Mercer and Brian Horner
and Paul Stevenson replied for
Tavistock.
After Terry Zehr made it 2-1 for the
Royals early in the second period, the
Mohawks started to roll and in only
seven minutes scored five times to
take what appeared to be an unsur-
mountable lead.
Bryan Baker started the quick scor-
ing on passes from Cam Doig and
Mark Cronyn and Dave Kinsman
followed on a power play with assists
going to Ron Elliott and Brian
Campbell.
In a space of 19 seconds near the
midway point, Dale Gibson hit the
Tavistock net with a pair of shots.
Brian Campbell assisted on both and
captain Randy Kraul gained a single
assist.
Another minute later Brian Mercer
completed the Exeter scoring on a_
play instigated by Pete Tuckey and
Jim Guenther.
In the third period, Ron Heinbuch,
Ted Gladding and Mike Booth tallied
for the Royals to give Mohawk fans
a few fears.
The regular home schedule for the
Exeter Mohawks ended on a vic-
torious note Saturday night as they
blanked the strong Harriston Blues
5-0. Harriston had won six games in
succession.
Rick Pikul in recording the shutout
turned in a very strong performance
on the eve of his 26th birthday.
Saturday night's game at the South
Huron Rec Centre was featured by
the attendance of a large group of
members of the South Huron Big '
Brothers and Big Sisters Association.
Matthew Sims, who is a little
brother to Mohawks captain Randy
Kraul dropped the puck for the of-
ficial faceoff and Mona Brand and
Jeff Kerr each won a beginning $50
account from the Bank of Nova
Scotia. The presentation was made by
Connie Inman, wife of local branch
manager Brian Inman.

weekend for two in Toronto in the
Mohawks early bird elimination
draw.
In Saturday's win over Harriston,
the game was only three minutes old
when Doug Latta completed a neat
three-way passing play with Mike
Clark and Ron Elliott to put the
Mohawks in front and with the fine
goaltending of Pikul were able to stay
that way throughout the entire
contest.
After a scoreless second period, the
Mohawks started scoring again ear-
ly in the final 20 minutes of play. Pete
Tuckey was the successful shooter on
passes provided by Cam Doig and
Barry Baynham.
The third Exeter goal came at 9.01
on a power play. Brian Horner hit the
Harriston net on passes from Mike
Clark and Steve Prout.
Only two minutes later the score
went to 4-0 as Bryan Baker registered
on a play initiated by Mark Cronyn
and Brian Mercer.
The final score for the Mohawks
was tallied at 16.38 as Dale Gibbon
converted a pass from Pete Tuckey
with Harriston playing a man short.
Referee Brad Horton called a total
of 16 minor penalties with seven
