Rider Scott Merner takes first prize in barrel racing competition
Congratulations to 14 -year-old Scott
Meitner, son of Larry and Louise, who
won first prize in a horse riding com-
petition for "Barrel Racing" over the
weekend in Picops ( East of Toronto)
There were 26 contestants com-
peting from various places. Scott did
very well with his horse, Sally Bar. In
fact this was the first show they
entered since Sally -Bar was sick this
summer.
More Barrell Racing is planned
when they go to Sarnia on February
9 and then into the Big Competition in
Toronto which is from March 4 to 9.
Good luck to you, Scott.
When the Merner family arrived
home on Sunday there was still a lot
of excitement going on - as later that
evening a new colt was born - which
they hope will be the future Barrel
Race Horse.

Dog complaints
There are still a lot of complaints
about large dogs running loose around
town, especially at night, and getting
into everyone's garbage and dragging
it all over the place! They sure made
a mess down our street last Tuesday.
It's too bad that now we have to wait
till Wednesday morning to put our
garbage out because of these dogs.

Mount Carmel PTA
discuss playground
The first meeting of the year for the
Mount Carmel PTA was held January
22 at the school with PTA president
Roberta Walker chairing the meeting.
The first item on the agenda was an
update, of the playground im-
provements project. After a good
start last year on levelling and re-
seeding a Targe grass area and install-
ing two baseball diamonds, work has
begun on stage H. The oval race
track -soccer field area has been plow-
ed up and the topsoil removed in one
low corner prior to fill being dumped
there.
Once the area is levelled, the gravel
track can be reshaped and the re-
mainder seeded in grass. A jumping
pit and large sandbox are are also
' planned. making it quite a complete
facility. A11 of this takes money, of
course, and funds will be sought once
