Guest speaker for the evening was Arnold Mathers, who with the assistance from Mrs. Mathers presented "Kids on the Block" muppets. .He spoke of the background of the project from its origination in Boston to the involve- ment in Huron County. He noted that each muppet represents a real child and each mup- pet has its own problems- from blind- ness to acne. He explained how the muppets are used in the classroom - to introduce children with handicaps into regular classes- with the use of tapes, activities as well as the muppets. President Sally Lou Raymond presided over the business portion of the meeting. After roll call and minutes were read, the various com- mittees reported on activities. Ways and Means reported on the Chicken Barbeque to be held this Friday, and workers were organized for prepara- tion and delivery. Lori Dykstra, chairperson of the service committee, reported that a gift had been purchased for the Huron Street Residence. It was decided the the Great Ride for Cancer will be a community Walkathon this year, with encouragement to all clubs and families to participate. Also it has been recommended that a Seniors Night be held in April. Pat Patterson's written report on the success of the Christmas Bureau was read by the president. Discussion on the future of the Christmas Bureau and the location of - the Bureau was brought forth by the members.
