In front ore Kendra Fenwick, Peggy Malone and Randy Johnson. - T -A photo High basketball scores South Huron District High School basketball coaches are in for some pleasant surprises if Saturday's free throw contest is, any indication of things to come. The basketball tossing event for elementary school students sponsored by the Exeter -Mount Carmel and Lucan Councils of the Knights of Col- umbus produced some surprising results. In the boys 12 years division, Steve Dubarly, a grade seven student at McCurdy -Huron Hope hit the basket 21 times in 25 attempts. Striking for 17 baskets each were Randy Johnson in the boys 11 years class and Rob Pearen for boys 14 years of age. Wade Suplat of Zurich was close behind with 16 successful shots in the boys 13 years old section. The other winners were Peggy Malone of Lucan, St. Patrick's, Ken- Bmntams The Exeter Legion bantams were eliminated in Ontario Minor Hockey Association "CC" playoffs in two straight games by. Lambeth. Lambeth won 6-4 at home Tuesday and in Exeter 3-2 Saturday after the first game ended in a 3-3 tie. Captain Jon O'Connor led the Ex- eter scoring in the first loss to Lambeth with a two goal effort. Frank Wulterkens assisted on both and Shawn Moore helped set up one ousted dra Fenwick and Tracy Cooper from McCurdy -Huron Hope. Exeter -Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus members Terry O'Rourke and Don O'Rourke along with Jack Gordon of the Lucan St. Pat's Coun- cil were in charge of Saturday's contest. The Exeter Hawks had their winless streak extended to 18 games as they dropped three consecutive contests over the weekend. Friday night, the locals were dumped at home 8-2 by Belmont and then lost 9-3 to the Bombers on the tat- ter's home lee the iollowtng night. The third loss was recorded on Sunday when the Hawks were doubled up by Thedord 8-4. Exeter will have three more con- tests this weekend and if nothing else, the locals should be in good shape physically when their season ends next month with no playoff hopes. Seaforth Centenaires will be in Ex- eter on Friday and the Hawks travel to Mt. Brydges on Saturday. The next night they'll host Thamesford. In Friday's weekend opener against the Bombers, the Hawks had a disastrous second period when they gave up five goals and were out -shot 27-6. Jason VanHaarlem faced a total of 59 shots in the contest with 50 of those coming in the first two frames. In Belmont the following night, the Bombers took a quick 3-0 lead and again were never seriously threatened. Scott BrintneU, Dave Skea and Steve Gould recorded the goals for the Hawks with Skea and Gould adding one assist. Other assists were picked up by Pfaff, Don Hamilton and Scott Bogart. Jeff Laporte was in the nets and faced 49 shots, while Exeter had only 25. The Hawks managed to stick with the Browns for the first period in Sun- day's contest in Thedford, but the hosts took a 5-3 lead into the third and then out -scored Exeter by a 3-1 margin to win. It was the only game of the three in which the Hawks were not badly outplayed. They managed 36 shots, while Thedford had 42. Gould scored a pair for the locals with Skea and Bogart potting the singles. For the other scores for the locals, Tim Carter converted a pass from Jeff Dalrymple and Shawn Moore registered with passing help from Jeff Hannah. In the game at home, Frank Wulterkens notched the first Exeter goal on a pass from Steve Lingard and the latter combined with Jon O'Connor to set up Jeff Kints for a successful shot. In other games, the Colonial Hotel beat Algoma Tire 7-1 and the Young and Restless got by the Whalers by a score of 6-4. Pete Heeney picked up a hat trick in the Outlaws victory over Pfaff Electric. Jamie Caldwell was next with a two goal effort and John Bilcke, Mike Stewart and Dave Kinsman added singles. Ken Pinder notched two goals for Pfaff's and Ron McCutcheon scored in single fashion.
