square footage building. He was join-
ed shortly afterwards by Harry
Winters. -
Huron Tractor is now a partnership
of five men. Joining Van Bussel and
Winters were Herb Verbeek in 1971,
Earl Long in 1973 and Bruce
Hasselback in 1976.
Since establishing at the Exeter
location, Huron Tractor expended to
Walkerton in 1979 where Dashwood
native Wayne O'Rourke is the owner -
'=manager. Kevin Buchanan is
manager of the Blyth sales and ser -
,vice centre which started In 1973.
The three Huron Tractor locations
cover more than one and a half acres
of building space. The Blyth Service
Centre expanded in 1985 to 8,000
square feet.
Herb Verbeek says, "With all the
talk about hard economic times in the
farming community, we were able to
achieve our largest sales volume ever
in 1985."
Jack Van Bussel added, "Some of
our recent success is due to our ex-
cellent service department. We have
been doing service work on John
Deere machinery as far away as the
Toronto area."
In this same vein, Earl Long con-
tinued, "We are in the thinking stages
of expanding our service facilities in
Exeter to accommodate large four-
wheel drive tractors and combines."
Verbeek went on to say, "Our suc-
cess is also due in part to our parent
company John Deere. Continuing to
show a profit picture each year,
Deere recognizes Canada as the most
stable agricultural market in the
world and in expansion plans will be
acquiring Versatile Corporation, an
all Canadian manufacturer of farm
machinery. "We are happy that they
are expanding in Canada."
John Deere in diversifying
manufacturing facilities, is working
closely with General Motors in the
developing and marketing lir diesel
engines.
Huron Tractor employs 51 persons
at all three locations.
The trade barn at the Exeter loca-
tion covering 16,000 square feet, the
only one of its kind in Canada enables
Huron Tractor to merchandise used
combines and large horse power
tractors.
The farm and industrial show at
Huron Tractor in Exeter will be open
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday,
February 3 and Tuesday, February 4.
