(A&DC) in co-operatou with Bell Canada has published a new drug education program, PLUS II, for grade seven and eight classrooms in Ontario. PLUS II is expected to reinforce the trend among Ontario students to decrease drug and alcohol use. Students today are knowledgeble about the risks of use because of ex- isting educational programs and federal campaigns. "But this is not the time to become complacent," says Dr. Reginald .Smart, of Addiction Research Foun- dation. "Drugs remain a serious pro- blem for some young people." A gallup poll conducted for the Federal government in February, 1985 indicates many young people are prepared to ignore the dangers of alcohol, drugs and tobacco because "drinking and smoking help reduce nervousness and shyness in social set- tings." PLUS II will assist grade seven and eight students and teachers in exploring and responding in a healthy way to the social pressures and choices facing adolescents today. The program, developed by Cyn- thia Malik, M.A., is being offered to teachers and principals in all elemen- tary schools in Ontario. Bell Canada has funded the production costs. Church was taken from I Samuel 16:1-13 and Matthew 22: 41-45 titled "The Autumn for Every Heart." UCW was cancelled January 9 due to weather conditions so will be held this Thursday, January 16 at 8:00 p.m. Choir practice is 8 p.m., Wednes- day evening.
