The annual OHA Junior 'D' western division all star game will
be played Saturday night in Lucan..

The Lucan Irish are in charge of organizing the game each year.
Over the years fellows like Clare Stanley, Bob Taylor and Jim
Freeman and now Jim Heard continue to put on a first class show
and the Lucan community centre is the permanent site for the
popular event.
The Exeter Hawks will be represented by Steve Gould, George
Pratt and Jeff Pfaff while the Lucan Irish performers will be Bob
Thirlwall, Wayne Urbshott, Jesse Crawford and goalie Darcy
Shaw.
A Real Battle
The best competition for playoff spots in the National Hockey
League is taking place in the Atoms Division.
In this grouping only three points separate the five teams. The
Quebec Nordiques are currently in first place with 44 points and
the last place Hartford Whalers have 41 points.

turned in a fine effoct. We had A chance to talk to a couple of the
Nordiques players and they are pleased with Dave's
performance.
A big thrW for local fans came in the second period when Dave
scored his third goal of the season on a hard shot from the post.
Dave Shaw is back in the Quebec lineup following an Injury and

by Ross Haugh .
At the end of the period the scoring was changed and credit for
the goal was given to Mike Eagles who apparently deflected the
shot. Eagles and Shaw were team mates with the Kitchener
Rangers and now room together when the Nordiques are on the
road.

Lucan, Saturday
an exciting time for the many local youngsters seeing their first
NHL game and for others a first visit to the Joe Louis arena. ,
Sunday night Dave scored his third goal of the season as the Nor-
diques held on to edge the New York Rangers 5-4.
This coming weekend will also accommodate the third annual
mixed sno-pitch tournament at the South Huron Rec Centre.
The tourney is sponsored jointly by the Rec Centre and the Ex-
eter Greys ladies fastball team provides lots of exercise and ex-
citement for the men and ladies who participate.
The weather may not be the best for spectators, but, if you are
hardy and don't mind getting a little chilled, watching a game or
two of a variety of softball in the snowy conditions could be fun.,
At the same time, the Exeter Mohawks will be participating in
an intermediate 'B' and 'C' tournament sponsored by the
Palmerston 81's.
The first game for the Mohawks will be Friday night at 9:30 p.m.
with the Harriston Blues providing the opposition. The Exeter club
is currently one point back of the league leading Elora Rocks while
Harriston is in fifth place.

7-2. The game was marred by
numerous fights and ended in a near
brawl in the Quebec end of the rink.
With six seconds to go, three
separate fights broke out. Just when
referee Ron Fournier and the
linesmen had peace restored, the two
goal tenders decided to take lip the
challenge.
Detroit goalie Mark Laforest who
had replaced Greg Stefan midway
through the third period found his way
to the other end of the rink and started
swinging away at Nordiques net -
minder Clint Malarchuk.
Following the visit with Exeter
fans, Dave Shaw and the other Nor-
diques boarded a bus which was park-
ed inside the arena. The team spent
the night in a Windsor hotel, before
heading out to New York Sunday mor-
ning to play the Rangers the same
night.
After scoring the first five goals of
the game the Nordiques were forced
to hold on to edge the Rangers 5-4. in
this game Dave Shaw recorded his
third goal of the year and added one
assist.
