Final YC service for '85
Don and Anna Maguire provided a
warm welcome for Lucan-
Clandeboye United Church people at
the last Sunday service of 1985. Barb
Bannerman read the Scripture por-
tion for the day, and Jean Brown told
the boys and girls a story about Deb-
by and Jay and their two friends who
learned that God never leaves them
and that they need not be afraid.
In his sermon, Rev. Brown spoke
about the work of the Bible Society in
translating and printing the Bible in
many of the world's languages. He
described some of the positive effects
on a nation when God's Word
becomes part of the life of the people.
Though the Bible is written in
man's words, it is God's message, in-
spired in the heart of the human
author by the Holy Spirit. It is for this
reason that the Scriptures speak to us
with authority, and we need to hear
and heed its message. When we do, it
has power to reveal to us the most in-
nermost parts of our lives and to cor-

Revival
Rick Thornton led the worship ser-
vice Sunday morning. Doug and Mar-
tha Butler sang Through it All, ask-
ing everyone to join in singing the
chorus. They then sang Jesus is More
Than Wonderful.
Rev. Roger Mason ministered from
Ephesians 5:15-16, on making the
most of our time. What happened to
present us from reaching our goals?
One problem is jumbled priorities. We
need to fulfill the important things
first.
Sometimes urgent tasks arrive that
crowd out the important ones. Spen-
ding time in prayer, and reading the
Word of God is most important today.
Urgent things that are not too impor-
tant make demands on our prayer
times. Unimportant urgent things can
cut into important time spent with
one's family. We need to resist the
temptation of give in the the urgent
and instead do the important tasks.
We can follow Jesus' example as He
said in John 17:4. The Book of Mark
tells of how busy Jesus was while on
'earth. But He still found time to speak
individually to people..How did Jesus
do this? Mark 1:35 tells us He spent
time in prayer before Father God.
Then Jesus knew how to put impor-
tant things ahead of urgent ones.
Rev. Gary Schlegel, guest speaker.
told about his going soon to St. Vin-
cent to help in building for a mission,
while ministering in evangelism

there. Rev. Schlegel spoke from John
14:1-4. Because the apostles believed
Jesus to be the Messiah, the Son of
God, they found it hard to hear Him
Say He was going to leave them. In
this Scripture Jesus assures them He
was going to prepare a place for
them, then return for them.
No one knows the time of Jesus
return, but God wants'His people to
be prepared. The New Testament
gives signs to look for before Jesus
returns. 1 Thesalonians 4:13-18 tells
how Jesus will come again, and to
comfort one another with this hope.
While Christians wait for Christ's
return, they exercise patience,
holding fast to that confidence.
Waiting fo Christ's return also pro-
duces perse erance. God wants His
people to press forward to see Christ.
'Vie Christian's place in heaven is
prepared and reserved for him by
Christ. The second coming of Christ
brings perspective for a Christian not
to count on things of this world.
