Birthday party at Bluewater
Dashwood seniors picnic, strawberry supper tonight

The Stewardship finance and
leadership group used "Lone" as the
theme for their meeting held at
Calvary United Church un Tuesday
evening. Mrs. Eben Weigand,
chairlady, opened with a poem
"Where there is Love". A favorite
hymn 'Tell me the Old, Old Story' was
sung, followed by prayer offered by
Mrs. Bill ('handler. The ladies joined
in a responsive reading led by Mrs.
Weigand. A devotional "The Grace of
Having Enough" was shared with the
group by Mrs. Mildred Kellerman.
Rev. Barbara Laing was the
speaker for the evening. She referred
to several scripture passages in defin-
ing the word "Love". Proverbs
chapter 10 tells us that hate stirs up
trouble but love forgives all offenses.
A presentation of a quilt was made
to Rev. Laing by Mrs. Weigand on
behalf of the U.C.W. members. Ms.
Laing has accepted a call from the
Dutton charge and will be leaving
Dashwood the end of June.
A brief business meeting followed
with Mrs. Don Gaiser presiding. All
members were reminded of the 50th
anniversary to be celebrated by Alma
College, St. Thomas, August 17 to 19. -
Rev. Don Parsons will be guest
speaker.
' Sunshine committee for June will
be Mrs. Jack Gaiser and Mrs. Lloyd
Guenther.
The annual strawberry and ham
supper will be held at the Dashwood
Community Centre this Wednesday
(today i from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Senior Citizens
Dashwood Senior Citizens met Mon-
day, June 10 for a picnic supper with
12 -in attendance, all enjoyed'the boun-
tiful meal. They plan on having a float
for the village's 125th anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs.
Eben Weigand, Mr. and Mrs. Frans
Boogemans, Mrs. Florence Martene,
Mrs. Velma Russell, Louis Weigand
and Mrs. Alma Genttner. They all
signed a petition stating they were not
in favor of Indexing the Seniors Pen-
sion. It is to be sent to Murray Car-
diff M.P.
Mrs. Pearl Miller's group will be in
charge of the September meeting.
Huronview's Seniors Day is July 3.
They are to meet at 11:30 a.m. at the
community centre. The bus trip to the
Toronto Zoo leaves at 8:30 a.m. June
27. .
Conveners, Velma Russell' and
Alma Genttner conducted contests
and relays with the following win-
ners; baldest head, Oscar Pfaff, lady
with most buttons, Pearl Miller,
longest married couple, Mr. and Mrs.
Everett Haist t68►; longest finger
nails, Mrs. Luella Tiernan; longest
hair, Frans Boogemans and Eben
Becker; most grandchildren, Maggie
Clark (40), number between 1 and 100,
Mrs. Leita Hill; throwing paper plate
farthest, Mrs. Alice Tiernan; one who
walks farthest in a minute, Mrs. Eben
Weigand; three relays were also
played.
At convention
•
Pastor M. Mellecke and lay
delegate Earl Keller of Zion Lutheran
Church, Dashwood, attended the 66th
regular convention of the Ontario
District of the Lutheran Church -
Missouri Synod at Brock University,
St. Catharines from June 13 to June
16.
The Ontario District joined the
Alberta -British Columbia and
Manitoba -Saskatchewan districts in
voting for Lutheran Church - Canada,
a vote in favour of partner status with
the mother synod based in St. Louis,
Missouri.
Until recently all pastors and
teachers for the province's 92
Missouri Synod congregations were
trained in US seminaries and col-
leges, and all administrative direc-
tion, mission outreach and published
materials came via the US offices.
At present 40 young men are enroll-
ed at two Canadian seminaries, one
located in Edmonton, Alberta and the
other in St. Catharines, Ontario.
A national church office is to be
established in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Currently, only one Lutheran
School, in Kitchener, exists. Discus-
sion at the Convention friay lead to the
establishment of more such schools.
Ladies Aid .
Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid hosted
the birthday party at the Blue Water
Rest Home Tuesday, June 11 with
nine persons having birthdays. Mrs.
Florence Marlene presided for the
program. Taking part were' Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Love, Grand Bend with
violin and piano; Mrs. Nancy Rader
and Stacey singing duets "I walk the
Line" and "The Green Green Grass
of Home"; Mrs. Mary Radergiring
two readings from the old school

Melvin Stade and Sherrie singing two
duets accompanied by Miss Helen
Nadiger; and Jayne Hayter playing
and singing two numbers.
A short business meeting followed.
Seventeen members of the ladies Aid
attended. The Altar Guild reported 14
visits. The new Guild is Mrs. Howard
Datars and Mrs. Luella Tiernan.
Several new items are to be purchas-
ed for the kitchen. The aid is sponsor-
ing a student at St. Catharines
Seminary. A bakeless bake sale will
be held during the summer.

Mrs. Margaret Carroll, convener of
resolutions was assisted by Mrs.
Mildred Kellerman and Mrs. Eben
Weigand. President Mrs. Emil
Becker opened the meeting with
mind -teasers followed by summer
suggestions of recreation, visitation
and relaxation. Ten members
answered the roll call 'tits a consumer
1 would like to see".
Several guests were present. Mrs.
Weigand gave a detailed report of the
District Annual. It was decided to
enter a float in Friedsburg days, and
to exhibit at Exeter Fair.
Mrs. Kellerman discussed the mot-
to, "An ant can move a rubber tree
plant". Gail Shaw favoured with
several numbers on the auto harp - It
is no secret, Because He Lives and He
touched me.
Mrs. Carroll gave tribute to all
fathers. She discussed the resolution,
resolved that violence on TV should
be cured. Mrs. Weigand read an Ode
to Outdoor Plumbing.
Plants were won by Mrs. Alice
Tieman, Mrs. Harvey Beierling, Mrs.
Emil Becker, and Mrs. Florence .
Martene. A contest was conducted
with Mary Rader winning a mug.
Lunch followed. Katherine Becker
and Mary Rader are delegates to the
FWIC convention at the University
this week.

Goderich and Deputy Reeve Lossy
Fuller, Exeter, attended the'OMSSA
convention in Kingston last week.
While there, they took the Thousand
Island cruise and toured old Fort
Henry courtesy of the city of
Kingston.
The Dashwood and Area Business
Association would like to thank
everyone who helped make our giant
flea market sale a success. We had
about 13 vendors. Be sure to watch for
this annual event next year.
The Dashwood History Book will be
on sale at the pre -sale price of $20. un-
til July 8 when the price of these books
will go up.

an•excellent selection for all ages at
the library. Films for organizations
are available.
Rev. Barbara Laing's brother, Ian
Lloyd Laing, passed away Thursday,
June 13 at Strathroy nursing home in
his 65th year. A memorial service will
be held Tuesday June 18 at Chalmers
Presbyterian Church, London.
Mrs. Edith Beierling attended the
Beierling-Deichert wedding at St.
Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich,
Saturday and the dinner and recep-
tion at the Stanley Township Com-
plex, Varna. The groom is her
grandson.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Miller and
Grant, Edmonton, Alberta, were
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Miller and Mrs. Alice Faveri, Win-
nipeg. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Faveri
Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berends,
Exeter and Mrs. Reinhold Miller,
Dashwood.
Mr. and Mrs, Albert Rader visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bills, Cass Ci-
ty, Mich. and attended the gradua-
tion dinner of their godchild Michael
Bills, held at Zehnders in Franken-
muth. The Bavarian festival was just
finishing their activities.
