PCW mark 95th anniversary
The P.C.W. of Carmel Presbyterian
Church celebrated their 95th birthday
on Monday evening with president
Margaret Hoggarth presiding. Cathy
Bell read the Scripture and Florence
Hyde and Marg Iloggarth were in
charge of the worship.
Mr. Gordon Erb was the guest
speaker. He also showed pictures on
Ethiopia. He was thanked by Marg
Hoggarth.
Jim Love was soloist accompanied
by his daughter Carolyn at the organ.
He sang "Ilow Great Thou Art" and
"Mansion Over The Hilltop". He was
thanked by Winnie Skea.
Guests attended Irom Cromarty
and other churches.
Gertie Moir and Edith 13e11 were in
charge of the delicious lunch. Maggie
May Campbell of Bluewaler Rest
Home cut the Anniversary cake. The
P.C.W. ladies will entertain in July at

Carmel Presbyterian
Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted the
sacrament of the Lord's Supper at the
service on Sunday. Miss Carolyn Love
presided at the organ and led the
choir in singing "Blessed Assurance".
Service will be held at the regular
time on June 23. The church will be
closed June 30 and all of July while
Rev. Knight will be on vacation.
Three Links Seniors
The Three Links Seniors Club held
a very successful meeting on June 11.
A good number of members were pre-
sent including' four guests.
After the business session. presi-
dent Hilda Payne called on Zone 8
President Irene Davis to read a let-
ter which she had prepared to send to
Pritne Minister Brian Mulroney. on
behall of the members of Zone 8. in
Hensall

Although everyone, including the
seniors, realize it is necessary to
reduce the National Debt there were
other ways to do this.
Mrs. Beth Biro of Willowdale, a
representative of "Fir Proud To Be
Me" travel service, came prepared to
show slides of "Deer Lodge". a vaca-
tion Resort on the shores of Lake
Kashagawigamong: unfortunately.
the slide machine malfunctioned, so
part of the program will he shown at
a later date.
Euchre was played for the re-
mainder of the evening,- followed by
a delicious lunch.
The Senior Club are to attend din-
ner at Iluronyiew on June 26 al 12:4:5,
leaving the local hall at 12 noon. .,

Unit 2 of the Hensall U.C.W. held
their .lune meeting with 13 ladies
answering the roll call "Happiness
is..-". Kay Mock chaired the meeting
and read marry interesting poems
throughout
Peggy Ferguson led the devotional
using a story "The Godly Man" as her
theme. The study was given by Helen
Mc I,ean showing us it doesn't matter
where we live. Business was as
follows: Cookies are needed for the
Vocational Bible School July 1-5.

was clear of the pileup and was not in

able to gel his bike fixed in lime with
borrowed parts and participate in the
race.

hard luck Ile was in good position (01

and knocked over He was able to gel
up and get going. to come from

Locals perform well
at Fiddlers' Contest
Competition was keen in the
weekend fiddlers' contest sponsored
by the Hensall Kinsmen club.
With a large crowd at the Hensall
Arena Saturday night. Suzanne
Tellier of Hamilton won the open
championship and the Ward Allen
Memorial trophy.
Tellier edged last year's winner
Karen Reed of London. Others plac-
ing in the top six were Bruce Woods.
Fergus: John Crozman, London:
Gerry Smith. Exeter and Kendra
Norris. Kitchener.
The championship trophy was
presented by Marg Entwhistle, a
niece of the late Ward Allen.
The intermediate title was won by
Eddie Mole followed by Reg Freer
and Alf Leno.
In the senior class for fiddlers over
60 years of age George Gagne of Sar-
nia was the winner. Next came.
Alfred Renaud of Windsor. Fred Har-
burn, Staffa; Dan King. Lakeside and
Art St. Onge, Belle River.
Best in the 12 years and under divi-
sion were David Jones. Lodon; Rob-
bie Campbell, Mississauga and Carol
Ann McQuaid, Seaforth.
Scott Woods was best for Junior fid-
dlers
dlers under 20 years of ager Todd
Thompson was second and Linda
Smith of Exeter was third.
Other winners were Scott Woods in
novelty and Suzanne Tellier and
Karen Reed in the duet section.
In step dancing the I'reszcator
sisters oI Clinton were winners. Shan-
non was best in the open class and
Sherri won in under 18 years of age.
The under 12 years step dancing ti-
tle went to Wendy Watson. She was
followed by Carol Ann McQuaid and
Brendon Johnson. This category at-
tracted 23 competitors.
WayneReid was chairman of the
two-day contest on behalf of the
Kinsmen club.
Queensway residents
travel
gavel to Stratford
We had a lovely tlay Monday mor-
ning. We (ravelled to Stratford in a
mini -van. courtesty of Ellison Travel.
in Exeter. stopping for lunch at
McDonalds. After lunch we went to
the park and fed swans and ducks
along the Avon River. The day was
enjoyed by all.
On Tuesday afternoon we had a
hymn sing- We were fortunate to have
Vera Shantz. Seleda Steckle and
Phillipa to lead us and the sing -song
delighted all.

The Baking club met Wednesday
afternoon. The.ladies made chocolate
macaroons which were delicious- The
lace wafers were less than perfect so
the ladies felt obligated to eat the
cookies themselves rather than serve
them to others.
Several ladies from the Christian
Reformed Church in Exeter invited
the residents out for the afternoon on
Thursday. They drove through the
countryside, stopping at the home of
Peta Branderhorst for refreshments.
Drivers were Annie Boersma, Alice
Rooseboom and Julia Knip. Residents
who did net go out had tea together
with Louise Mitchell pouring.
Movie night on Thursday evening
featured the movie "Niagara Falls"
which presented the audience with it
scenic tour of the honeymoon capital
of the world.
Friday afternoon the residents took
advantage of the warm weather.
playing a few games such as croquet
and beanbag toss 00 the lawn. All par-
ticipants received prizes -
Saturday afternoon the residents
visited the farm of Donna and Ross
Corbett to see cattle, baby chicks Slid
kittens. A picnic lunch was enjoyed at
the park in Exeter.
Rest Home residents participated
in an afternoon of bingo on Monday
Due to cold temperatures we only
stayed for a couple of innings- All in
all it was a worthwhile outing as it
allowed us tostop for ice cream on the
way.
