for claybird club
The Claybird Gun Club had a very
busy weekend starting with our an-
nual Pitch -in Day sponsored in part
by The Federation of Anglers and
Hunters and Sunoco.
Five miles of area roads were
cleaned up and a total of three pick-
up trucks of garbage were disposed
of.
A turkey shoot was held Sunday
with one of the best turnouts ever. The
weather turned out perfect and
everyone had a great day.
Prizes of turkeys and hams were
won. Winners of Pie Shoots were:

Royals return to winning
Following their -first loss of the
season to the Lucien Irish. the Exeter
Royals resumed their winning ways
Tuesday as they travelled to Poplar
Hill and came away with a-7-5 win.
The first five innings featured a pit-
cher's'duel between the Royals Brian
Hodgins and Jini Daniels. Poplar Bill
who scored first in the second inning
on a walk sacrifice and single. The
Royals finally broke through in the
top of the sixth as they scored four
times on four hits with the key hit, a
triple by Mike Desjardine, which
drove in two runs.
Poplar still came right back in the
bottom half of the inning as they
scored four runs on four walks, a hit
and two hit batsmen.
The Royals responded by scoring
three times in the top of the seventh
on tour singles and a walk. The key
hit was a two out single by Mike Des-
jardine which drove in three runs. De-
jardine was two for four on the night
-with four it.B.L's.
Brian Hodgins was the starting pit-
cher for the Royals and he went five

sixth in the long jump in the weekend
all -Ontario high school track and field
meet. Her distance was 5.23 metres.
Lee O'Rourke failed to qualify for
the final eight with a mark of 4.72
metres.

five. Dan Heywood picked up the win
in relief.
Thursday, at home, the Royals ran
their season record to seven wins and
one loss by defeating Lieury 4-3.
They opened the scoring in the se-
cond inning as Mike Desjardine led
off with a triple and seored on a single
by John Remick.
The Royals increased their lead in
the third inning as they scored three
times with the key hits a single by Jim
Allison which drove in two runs.
Lieury got on the score board in the
fourth against starter and winner Dan
Heywood, with two runs on a hit and
two errors. They scored again in the
seventh but were unable to get the
equalizer.
• Winning pitcher Dan Heywood hurl-
ed a strong game for Exeter giving up
only two hits; while walking one and
striking out nine. Losing pitcher
Hodgins worked three innings, giving
up four runs on five hits. Glen Thomp-
son, in relief, allowed no runs on two
hits. He struck out five and didn't
walk a batter.
The Royals travelled,to Lieury last
night to meet West Corners and their
•next home action will be Thursday
night against ilderton.
Express win two of
three Great takes tilts
The Exeter Express won two of
three Great Lakes senior baseball'
league games this week.
Thursday in Kincardine the Ex-
press recorded a 5-2 win over the
home club. Sunday it was a split of
twin bill Owen Sound. The Express
took the first game 11-6 and the Owen
Sounders rebounded to take the
nightcap by a score of 5-3.
In Kincardine Thursday night, Jeff
Fuller and Steve Pearce combined on
the Exeter mound to hold the opposi-
tion to two runs seven hits over the
seven inning route. Each gave up one
run. Fuller in his five inning stint
chalked up seven strikeouts while
Pearce whiffed a pair in two innings.
The first Express score came in the
opening inningas HrianMercer singl-
ed and scored on a similar hit by
Brian Horner and a groundout.

walked, Walt Parkinson and Doug
Iloffman doubled and all scored with
the help of Kevin Ilern's one -bagger.
Ilern•counted an insurance run in
the sixth as he was safe on a fielders
choice after Rob Pryde singled and

A five run rally in the top of the
eighth inning broke a tie and allowed
the Express to win 11-6.
In the first frame. Brian Mercer
walked, Dave Shaw was safe on an er
ror and both rode home on a homer
from the bat of Paul Gilmour.
Mercer again walked in the second
and scored on a hit by. Doug f loffman.
Two more rums countee(1 in the sixth by
Parkinson and Mercer. but Owen
Sound scored three 1iines in the bot -
tom of the seventh to lorce the game
into extra play.
in the eighth Jeff Fuller and Wall
Parkinson were safe on errors, Brian
Mercer and Brian Horner singled and
Dave Shaw cracked a home run.

without the aid of a hit as Steve
Pearce and Jeff Rowe walked.
