Times-Advocate, 1985-06-12, Page 17A Another successful Hensall Fair Sunny skies and warm temperatures provided the right at- mosphere for another very successful Ilensall Spring Fair held Tuesday Secretary Beth Cooler reports at- tendance was good for the 117th edi- tion of the fair sponsored by the Hensall-South Huron Agricultural Society. The fair got off to a good start with an excellent parade involving many area residents of all ages. Winning prizes for the best decorated bikes under 10 years of age were Eric Groot, Marcia and Kelly Regier, Shelly Gardner and Brad Hartman while best in over 10 years were Mark Tinney and David Northcott. In the junior float division. the best were Jason Phillips, Bevan Moir. Joey Hay. Jennifer Groot. Ryan Groot and Tracey Ferguson. Best comic prizes went to Lori Lynn Gould and Angela Gould. In the post - judging sale. the championship animal was purchased by Paul Van der11olen for Hensall District Co- operative for $2.10 per pound. The top two calves in 1984 brought $l.20 and $1.16 per pound. respectively. The next six calves in order of judg- ing for finish were shown by Rob Passmore. Gerald Kerslake, Scott Lobb, Irene Dietrich. Brad Carter and last year's winner Scott Cooper. In senior showmanship the winners were Katie Kerslake. Scott Cooper. Robert Wareing. Lisa Ilern, Al Hen- ning, Wilber Kerslake, Kenny Miller and Michael Bern. Junior showtnanship winners were Hiatt Townsend, Joan Kerslake, Brad Carter, Rob Passmore, Gerald Kerslake. Jon Passmore, I)an Rohde and Scott Lobb. The heaviest calf in the show was Scott C'ooper's at 994 and it won the prize for the most gain of 534 pounds. Next in line carne Gerald Kerslake. Wilber Kerslake, Scott Lobb, Michael Hayter, Michael Bern. Irene Dietrich and Erin Lobb. Trophies for the calf club show were provided by the Exeter Times Advocate. Exeter District ('o -op, Hen - sail Livestock Sales, John Kinsman Mate torn to page-'rl'A Non-commercial float winners were Hensall Kinsmen and Kinettes, Goderich township and the Hensall Nursery School and commercial win- ners were the Bank of Montreal, Flower Basket, W.G. Thompson, Bank of Commerce and Bully Gully. Bob and Muriel McLaughlin had the best horse drawn vehicle, winners for best decorated cars were Jerry Upshall and Ted Easy and best in an- tique cars of more than 30 years were Jack Cooper, Emmerson Anderson. Ted Easy and Leonard Erb. In the baby show winners in the six months and under class were Joshua, son of Joyce and Andrew Hummefl; Justin, son of Joanne and Mery Fields and Blain, son of Vicky and Rodger Morrison. Over six months winners were Karen, daughter of Barb and Dave Dalgleish, Krista, daughter. of Beatrice and Ron Fleming and Meagan, daughter of Sandi and Everett Robinson. Over one year the best were Jonathan, son of Audrey and Jeff Brand; Mark, son of Jane and Ted Soudant and Michelle, daughter of Vicky and Lionel Wilder. In the poultry show. Cliff Pepper was the winner solid colour stan- dards, Howard Fletcher won the parti colour standards, Doug Gill won in parti colour bantams and: I.,arry Byers showed the best pigeons. Cash prizes were donated by the Huron Poultry, Pigeon and Pet Stock Association. The mini pedal tractor pull proved to very interesting. Winners in the 25-50 pound class were Jeff McGregor, Jeff Turner and tan McMillan. Best in 50 to 75 pounds were Robbie Consitt. Steven Camp- bell and Kevin Mount while John Roosebootn, Mike Iloffman and Mark Dietz were best in the 75 to 100 pound division. The prize for -the best of show quilt in the ladies division competition went to Marg Cole. Winners of the 50-50 draw were Sharon Fell, Staffa: Niall Straw, Ex- eter and David Veal, Exeter. Taking the Heywood's Country Restaurant prize in the guess the weight contest was Marilyn Rhode. In the sheep show. the grand cham- pion ram was shown by Jim Perry and the reserve went to Hugh Todd. Todd won the grand champion ewe trophy and reserve winner was Dar- ren Faber. The flock winners were Ed Jackson and Louis Emke. Market lamb winners were Hugh Todd, Linda Paine. Darren Faber, E. Armstrong. Louis Emke and Jim Perry. Junior class Iamb winners were Sherry Lovell and Lindsay Paine.
