Resort cruising club
shows cool fashions
The Huron Country Playhouse
Guild will hold a fashion show on
Wednesday, June 5 with two perfor-
mances. Entitled "Carefree Days
.ahead", the first show will feature a
luncheon at 12:30, with wine and
cheesa.at 8:30 pm.
The two shows will be held in
Playhouse II, H.C.P., Grand Bend
and tickets may be purchased at
White's Pharmacy, GB. and Looking
Good, Exeter.
Mother's Day Thence
The United Church ladies met for
their afternoon meeting Thursday
with 22 in attendance.
Clara Hamilton gave the opening.
CRUISE INTO FASHION_ --
Wearing o sharp white jacket and
shorts with a pretty mauve top is
model Karen Kading. The GB
Cruising 'Club presented the
fashion show at the Oakwood Inn
last Sunday afternoon for over
125 people. Other models were
Sally Woods, Gail Lawson, Joyce
Sloman, Tammy Bowman,
Dorothy Peat, Li) Richardson,
Tony Relouw, Dick Bieman and
Jack Woods.
Concert group
remains busy
on a Mothers Day theme, with a
tribute to mothers, and a story about
how this day began. The first service
was held for mothers day in 1908 and
is now observed in 46 countries in the
world. A poem by Helen Steiner Rice
on "What is a Mother". " closed the
talk.
Roll call was answered with a
gardening hint and some craft items
for the summer bake sale. Clara
Hamilton -gave the program reading
on Church in Society, due to the
absence of convener, Elizabeth
Adams.
A standing ovation for Lamentable
Consort. a brilliant group from
Sweden brought the successful 1984-85
Youth and Music concert series to a
close in Grand Bend last week. Con-
certs for the year may be over but ac-
tivities for the Grand Bend Concert
Association will continue throughout
the summer and -into the fall when an
exciting -new season will begin.
In June, at least four members of
the association will be attending a
conference at the beautiful
Kempenfelt Center near Barrie. The
main object of the convention will he
to choose artists for the 1986-87
season. Each year Youth and Music
conducts auditions thoughout Canada
seeking new talent. A panel of
recognized adjudicators select a
number of ensembles who in turn per-
form in showcases at the annual con-
ference for delegates from centers
like (:rand Bend.
Over the years Y and M has helped
launch the careers of renowned art ists
such as Maureen Forrester. the Or-
ford String Quartet. and Oira Ilarnoy
to name a few. And the tradition
continues'
The Grand Bend Concert Associa-
tion is pleased to announce that Cyn-
dy Metcalfe has been chosen as one
of the so young Canadians to attend
the Youth and Music World Congress
in July. Cyndy is a dedicated music
student from Forest who has been
helping the association this year. The
association members are very pleas-
ed that they can give Cyndy this op-
portunity to attend workstallps and
concerts with other young musicians
from around the world.
The International Federation of
Youth and Music rJeunesses
Musicales unites over 40 member
countries working for co-operation
and understanding through music. A
World Congress is held hi -annually in
one of these member countries In
1985. the Congress is being held in
Canada as part of (he international
Year of youth celebrations.
Another st%dent benefited from the
associations activities when a draw
was held at their annual meeting last
week One season's ticket for the
plays al the Huron Country Playhouse
was graciously donated as a thankynu
for the Y and M tickets donated for
the Playhouse auctions in the past
Only those people who had renewed
their subscription for next year's
Youth and Music series were eligible
for the draw. May Ellen Whaley from
the Ontarion Arts Council drew the
name of [)avid Maguire for the
association (hat evening.
Subscriptions for the 1985-86 Youth
and Mimic concert series can be
renewed at last year's prices up un-
til .tune 30. For information call Nan
Freele at 238-2071.
President, Elizabeth Norris chaired
the business. An invitation was
received to attend the evening unit
meeting on May 27 to view a film bas-
ed on lt►e study book of Korea.
A thank you was read from Arc In-
dustries for the U.C.W. money dona-
tion. Dashwood United Church will
host the fall regional meeting and the
Alert letter was read by Mrs. Norris.
April visits to the sick and shut ins
were reported.
