Through the use of the Lung Association's "Biomonitqring Pro- gram", students utilize biofeedback equipment to demonstrate immediate changesin the carbon monoxide level, heart rate, hand tremor and skin temperature caused by cigarette smoking. Says Marybelle Ford of the Lung Association of Huron Perth. "In most cases". continues Ford. "smoking iminediately increases tt{e level of carbon monoxide in the blood, increases heart rate, increases hand tremor and lowers skin temperature. The primary goal is to demonstrate to young people that smoking does af- fect them adversely and immediate -1. ly". Statistics show that 17 percent ot boys and 22 percent of girls are regular smokers by the age of 14. The Lung Association is.pleased to provide this program to high school students in Ontario.
